Default Why are EFs so expensive?

Is it just me, or is it impossible to find a relatively stock ED7/ED9 with no rust, for a reasonable price? All the cars I see are either 1. swapped, 2. rusted to hell, or 3. they want $6000 for a 15-year old car with 190,000 miles.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for some little-old-lady-special, I just want a stock car with no rust for a reasonable price. Is that too much to ask, or what?

I've looked everywhere, from the local ads to eBay to the Autotrader. Am I missing something? Where do you guys find your cars at? Most of them look to be in excellent condition.

I am even willing to travel a long way to get a car; I live in PA, and am willing to go to Florida or perhaps even California to pick up a rust-free car. Does anyone have some tips on where to find decent EFs? Perhaps some ZIP codes for me to search?

These cars are old, and good. Good luck my friend occasionally you can find a cherry, I'm affraid your gonna have to either travel really far or fix up something with minor rust. I live in Ohio so I understand your situation. I say just buy one with minor rust and fix it. I got a little old lady special, original owner, with minor rust for $100. Just got to keep an eye out.

mine wasn't nearly $6000, but I paid way too much- I just really wanted it, it's gotten to be quite an expensive project w/ all teh bs that I had to replace & some days I swear I hate it, but I can't think of another car that I want to spend money on other than this one for now. there's just something about driving an oversized go kart but if the cheapest that you are finding is $6000 & you really want one look elsewhere b/c at that price you better get a (insert sexual favor here) or something

what the hell is an ed7 / ed9 ? i honestly dont know but anyways... these cars are old. most of them are beat and rusty but at the same time there is a fairly high demand for them. thus nice ones sell for higher prices...

im sure youre not stupid and you realize this but i mean who's gonna sell you a mint ef for $500 if they can get $3500 for it. good luck with your search though.

I got my 88 CRX Si for 2800 totally stock(it had a homemade axle back but he gave me the stock also) w/ 200k miles but its in unbelievable condition esp. the interior, but bleive me it took me forever to find it, its just a matter of being patient. Another thing is since you live on the east its a lot tougher to find rust-free cars because of the humidity and the fact that they mainly salt the streets in winter, so looking in a dryer area ie: not florida, you might have better luck, check AZ because I see quite a few good EFs for sale here

I got my 1991 Crx Dx for $700, It is no doubt the cleanest all original rex in Tucson, The paint and interior look brand new! The old owner was a bitchy lil old man, and had to sell it to me cause I kept badgering him to let it go!

Well, after saving the money on buying it and all, I am ready to dump a **** load of $ in it to see whats the best et in the 1320 I can run, and how many domestics I can **** off! Made by Honda, Designed by Mugen, the Rex is best!

I picked up a rust free southern 91 Si hatch, in teh color I wanted (black) with NICE clean interior, and a very decent exterior with high milage for $3800.

I could have gotten it for less, but I wanted it badly, and hell, loan value was $3000, so I didn't get reamed all that badly.

3 weeks after purchase, I spun a rod bearing from low oil, and swapped int eh B16a. It's been a neverending money pit since then, but God I love it.

Look in the Tennessee autotrader. There's ALWAYS an ED chassis car in there somewhere, and our cars are rust free for the most part. If you find a car in Memphis, send me a PM, I wouldn't mind going to look at it, and take some digital pics to send you of it. Let me know.

I paid $4950.00 for mine last year. It was a little bit over the Kelly Blue Book value of $4750.00, But it is cherry. 110,000 original miles with no accidents according to Car Fax. No rust anywhere on the car and the interior is mint. Mine is a 1990 Civic Si. I know I paid more than I should have, But it didn't need any work. Good luck finding one, I had been looking for one since 1996 that wasn't beat to hell and in good condition. Here is a pic of me standing in front of it at the dealer when I was picking it up:

It's one of the nicest looking year of the Hb imo.
I paid 3500 canadian$ for mine, it was a DX, with minor rust and an Auto trany.
thing have just changed a lot since I got it:
new engine, new trany ( 5 speed ) , new ecu too ( obd1), wheel,
new paint, integra seat, suspension and brake.
invested around 10000 canadian $ for it.
and it look like that:
not willin to sell it thoug, but if I was I will certainly ask for more than 6000$.

In Pa ED's are going for alot of money. I looked at alot this year and all the ones I looked at where beat and people wanted 3,000-4,000. I only saw one Civic Si and it was really bad shape with 130k miles for 7k!!

Good news for me though if I ever sell my car maybe I wont loose out to much

P.S. There is a maroon DX for sale around here that just went for sale the other day with 99k miles, no rust but has a dented under carriage and ripped drivers seat for 3,500. My womans brother is looking for one also.

You just have to keep looking. Another problem is that most of the people that own them, don't know much about the internet. So all they do is put a For Sale sign on the car. I've seen many CRX's in my area that were being sold for 2-3K. They look in good condition too. I got mine free from my brother, so I was able to put money into it right away. I also found one in my area on Ebay for 800, that needed the DX to Si wiring conversion done. You just have to keep looking, and be patient.

They are rare I was about to buy a red 90 si before around where I live. And some guy drove all the way up from Virginia and beat me to it. I searched for about 2 years becasue people wanted way to much money for them. I finally found a 90 black si hatch for $500 in Philly, it was in pretty good condition, it was parked on the side of street. The dude hadn't drove it in a year, we had to bang on the drums with a hammer to push it on the trailer.

Thats funny that you can't find one in good condition. There are two of them within a mile from where i work. And I just bought one of them saturday, 91 hatch for 1,500$. The other one is a silver hatch (89') DX with 154,000 the seller is asking 1,200$, no rust and the body looks good from what i can tell. I'm not sure of the zip codes but i live about 30 min outside NYC.
