CLUTCH WARS!!! What's the best clutch for road-racing???
OK... I hope this starts a huge thread
BUT I am looking for facts/opinions on what the best clutch is for a 150hp or so road race 1990 integra?
I've heard the manufacturers reasoning, but now I want to find real world examples.
Thanks Everybody

Same clutch here (ACT HDSS) and I also like it. Only thing is after I had it installed it made this funny squeeling noise every time I slipped the clutch a little. Then I figured out the cheap asses at the shop used motor oil in my tranny instead of honda MTF. I also had some worn syncros so I swapped out the motor oil with GM Syncromesh "with friction modifiers" and now no more noise and no more grindy-grindy. Great stuff!
I have been considering ACT for sometime now. I have a good recommendation from a few guys in NASA Honda Challenge that are using ACT. I am looking at the ACT-AI2-HDR6.

OK... So what puck count would be ideal for road racing?
If the tranny takes some abuse... what is acceptable abbuse?
And has anybody had tranny failure with a low horsepower setup, and a grippy clutch?

I have a Clutch Masters stage 4. I love it. Medium pedal pressure, somthing over 400 ft/lbs of tq holding capacity. Its a 4 puck with dampening springs so its less damaging on your tranny. I have around 20k miles on the clutch and still grabbing extemely hard. good luck on the coices

talk to autoxintegra.
he had an XTSS (same disc as everyone else, but with XTREME pressureplate). and it cracked his tranny.
I had an XTSS on my teg ls with i/h/e/cat pullies, ignition, 7.5lb flyhweel. I loved it... just be sure to complete the break in... i didn't and it made my disc feel kinda mushy for a while... after about 500 miles it felt amazing. the pedal feel was great and the grip was amazing.

i have a ACT Stage 3......love it!
once you get a heavy duty clutch, you'll be in love. i can't stand driving stock clutches anymore, i keep stalling them. i'm so used to the pressure mine puts out. you'll get used to it quickly.
also, break it in like the other guy said. i put 500 miles on mine. normal street driving, i didn't hit VTEC in any gear, babied it. it grabs like hell still after 15k miles.

i have the act hd-r6. it grabs hard. i cracked my tranny due to teaching a friend drive stick.
but other than that its a great setup.. i love it!!

For road racing and 150hp, the ACT HDSS would be best. No need for anything more than that. I've had the ACT HDSS for about 3 years and 3 road course events, one just recently, and it still grabs strong. That's one thing people that drive my car always say about my clutch. I'm running about 163whp with an R LSD tranny and I love the clutch.
Good luck!
