brake/caliper/rotor problem
brake/caliper problem.
any ideas about what might be wrong?
noticed that the left rear rotor (power slot crosss drilled) was not losing overnight rust as usual after driving/stopping. upoun further inspection noticed that the rotor was veeeery hot. also a lot of brake dust. more dust than the front rotors by 3 times. calipers are preety rusty.
maybe caliper is partilr frozen/stuck/hung-up? but, wouldnt the rotor be clean of rust if calipers were stuck/rusting . i do not think rotor is warped. pads still good(ebc green).
if I were to need to replace rear caliper/calipers what are my options?
sorry for long post.
all ideas much appreciated.

how about the inside rotor surface, facing the center of the car....is it rusty too?
maybe the inside pad is sticking on, and the outside pad is barely touching the rotor....?
I had sticking sliders on my rear calipers last year... HOT hot hot brakes because they were stickign on, and got worse the hotter they became so it was getting worse quickly.
Took the caliper off & apart and cleaned up the sliders and relubed them and no problems since....

Make sure you have the pad in correctly. You could have the outside of the pad rubbings against the rotor. I didn't hear anything audible for a few weeks when the back the pad finally hit all metal so it was metal-to-metal rubbing...
update.
removed rear caliper......was not sure what to do next.....soooo,
cleaned everything and put it all back together again.
seems to have worked. at least alot better. everything was just stuck.
no more hot hot hot. no more rubbing.
thanks.

I've just had this problem last week!
Same side, left rear. Turned out to be brake caliper ceazed.
I didn't know how to fix it so I turned the car to the dealer and it was a $430 fix to replace the caliper and install new pads. Good luck
