You could be burning that much. The dipstick only shows 1 quart of oil on it from the bottom hash of the marks to the top of the hash marks.

top off your oil... after one qt, wait a few minutes and then check the dipstick again... if it's still dry, lather, rinse, and repeat.

Depends on how low it really was. Tell us how much oil you have to add to get it back to full. Did your oil pressure idiotlight ever come on?

This happened to me when I was up at school over a year ago. I was driving, and the oil pressure light came on. I headed right on over to Costco and bought a case of Mobil 1 10w30 Synthetic. Got to the parking lot and started topping off. One quart in, checked dipstick, was dry. Another quart in, checked dipstick, dry. Finally, on my 3rd quart, I was halfway between the dots. What could've happened? I wasn't aware of my car burning any oil until then... that was about 70k miles or so, I think. What damage could I have done? Compression test results are bad =\ 150's in two cylinders, 180's in the other two.

i go through oil way fast too. I usually put between 3-5quarts of oil on top of an oil change every 3000 miles. I am thinking about getting an oil compression rest just tobe safe.

are you running the oem valve cover freash air tube? You know the thing everyone puts a breather on? If you got the stock tube take apart your intake and check for massively abnormal amounts of oil in the intake tube. Also check you PCV valve, how is your idle?

in California you'll fail the visual part of the emissions test. But for most cars the breather is not benificial. FI cars may need it so oil doesn't get sucked out the valve cover.

Yah checking your oil when your motor is running is not acurate at all since the oil is being pulled from the oilpan as soon as its started...when the engine is cold and all the oil has run down into the oil pan is when your saposto check it.

all this check oil stuff
im getting confused (LOL)
cold engine level ground thats all.
no puddles thats good
so next step is burning
how bout your exhaust
while car is running rev up a couple of time
and check tail pipe and ground if you see any black markins on
ground you are burning oil
simple test.
and like the other post says add oil until you see it in the dispstick
