Default Tuning Skunk Stage 2 cams

I have an OBD2 GSR and wanted to put in Skunk stage 2 cams w/ skunk valvetrain and Skunk manifold. My question is, is Camgears, FPR, VAFC and single runner OBD2 ECU enough to tune these cams. I'm not sure how high the skunk valvetrain can rev (9k or 9.5k?), but would these 4 things be enough to successfully tune these cams? Hondata would be ideal, but OBD1 ECU w/ Hondata is a little expensive.

Tony at Skunk2 assured me using the entire Skunk2 product line within your valvetrain and head. The vavletrain and cams will take a beating up to 10K RPMs.

However, your rods and crank prolly wont be able to handle that kind of load.

Skunk2 Tests their product well into 10K+ RPMs but the question is your engine setup to handle that kind of stress and will you make power into that high in the RPM band?

If you are going to run the Stage 2 cams, at the very least, get something to raise your revlimit.

I would recommend at least a chipped ECU and Apex-i VAFC, but the hondata would be best hands down. MPH on this board has done pretty well tunning with a chipped ECU and VAFC.

Stage 2?? Why stage 2? Forgive me if I am wrong, but wouldn't you need a higher compression ration to fully take advantage of these cams?

To fully take advantage, yes. But that doesn't mean he won't get a good gain over Stage 1's without higher CR.

yes he would gain some over ths stg 1's and also have room to grow when he builds his bootm end for higher cr...but if you dont plan on building the bottom up a little id recomend the stg 1's better for good power gains and gas mileage...a vafc and fpr and gears would be enough to get a decent tune out of those cams, w/ a hondata you'd be able to squeeze a few more hp out but its not worth the extra cost...hondata is great, but very costly for obd2 guys and w/ n/a cars most of the time a vafc is fine.

Well, I'm going to be running JDM ITR pistons and rods in the setup (I already have those), as for the crank, i'm left on my *** on that one. It's good to know the skunk valvetrain can handle 10k+.

So basically, A VAFC and FPR should be able to fine tune the fuel enough so the cams get decent power and good curve.

My next question is ignition, should retarding and forwarding the ignition be enough?

I'm getting ready to just this...so I'm in he same boat.Since I was planning on pulling the head for the cam install, I figured I'll be a little more patient and get the head p+p and possibly milled, ever so slightly to "true" it up.
fyi with vafc, i/h/e/im I made 156whp and 117wtq. if you wait about a month I'll let you know how I do once the cams go in.
