Mercedes CL 600 vs. ITR
Oh no... My friend's dad just bought a brand new CL 600, fortunately without the Lorinser package, just lorinser rims... He told me today that he wants to race.. I told him I don't street race, so he told me we would race at a drag strip (legally) and he would pay for it! I decided to take him up on it.. Do I have to be worried???? I'm gonna lose aren't I.
You're going to get worked. With that V12 he will probably run mid-to-low-13's. Plus, all he has to do is step on the gas, no driver technique involved. Watch out. If you beat him I will buy you a beer.
tell him you will only race him title for title - and get some engine work done and some practice strip time before then - then enjoy your CL600 as a weekend car

learn how to drive first, keep the accidents few and small, then maybe go to a driving/race school...

You're toast!
I was absolutely creamed by a new S500 a couple of months ago. The torque on those guys is extreme...I can only imagine the whooping a 600 engine would have caused.

My dad has the new S500, and it feels faster than it is! (But still fast).
A good driver in a Type-R could take the S500.
But the CL600 is LIGHTER and has 6L V12 (instead of a 5L V8).
All that adds up to a big *** whoopin for a Type-R.

You, who is proud to be a type R owner, take him to a circuit track.
type R is not really built to drag. I am sure if you have good driving
skills, you can smoke him with ease at at the circuit track. His car
is not built to be track ready, yours is. You should not be the one who
starts getting worried, he should be the one. If going fast at a
straight line is all you care, should have get a turbo car, or a mucle car.

Dude
My dad has a 2001 CL 600 and to tell you the truth you should be able to eat it until 3rd fear and then your going to see it start to pull on you. If you get out of the hole good then you should have a chance against it. Yes its got a huge motor and but its also very heavy and its not a 1/4 mile car its an Autobahn highway car so dont panic just get out of the hole good thats all

I raced a 600SL before and gotten beaten on the highway, those things do move. all I was able to do was catch up to him, but the guy would just change lanes and take off.
find someone and borrow their NOS.. and run some street slicks if you can... that car is faster then the ITR to begin with so why even bother when you will get spanked.. at least with NOS you will at least be somewhat even with him. I think thats fair.. in my opinion i wouldnt run him.. whats the point? run someone that is in your cars category, my .02 cents
The new S600 (4 door) runs the 1/4 in 13.9.
i raced a sel600 and we were pretty even between stop light.
