Default New here - Thinking about getting an ITR

hello all!

First off let me say sorry for being a newbie to hondas (everyone has to start somewhere), while I know some basic things about hondas I am not super knowledgable but I can tell you what an ek9, dc2, b18c5 is hehe. I have been mostly drag racing recently and have decided racing without turns isn't enough for me. I had a 12sec DSM not too long ago.

Anyways I have always like ITRs especially for there handling prowess. I have road raced some and have always wanted an ITR just for that. I am looking at 98, 00-01 ITRs. I know that they are pretty similar except cams were changed 00-01 and probably other ecu "enhancements". I would appreciate any suggestions on what to look for when looking at ITR. My modding route for the ITR would be mainly in the suspension, brakes, etc dept. Powerwise I think it is adequate with an intake upgrade.

I hope I will learn from all of you and make my purchase within the next year! Thanks ahead!

Welcome to Honda-Tech!
And yes, the ITR is a great car on the road course.

best advice I could give you is to hit the link in your top right corner of your screen - search! use the archive - we've talked about every imaginable (and some unimaginable too ) thing you could think of.

Can't go wrong with an ITR, but there are many superior cars around for straight line fun. If you dig having fun in the turns though, there isn't a better fwd car around

Just make sure you have somewhere to park the Integra, like a garage. The worst thing to happen to someones baby is to have it taken from them by scabs...

First off, welcome to the board. Although it is not by any means a "fast" car, the R's overall package is hard to beat on a road course. You'll find tons of information searching in this forum, and I'd also recommend the road racing forum.

I haven't taken mine on a road course or raced at all for that matter but I can tell you that the ITR is the funnest car I have ever driven. Welcome to Honda-Tech and feel free to browse around a little before you start making post. If you have a question than search for the answer because if you ask a question thats been covered before than they are just going to tell you to search anyway. It saves you a little bit of time and eliminates the middle man.

Welcome. Read threads on here frequently and you will learn a lot very quickly, and will likely learn who should and shouldn't be listened to. The best initial piece of advice would be if you do get one, be used to paranoia and expecting people to f*#k with it. That is the only downside I can think of as far as owning one is concerned.

It's an awesome car simple as that. Hard to beat the overall package of power, handling, braking, and reliability for the price.

Don't fret over which year to get. The 00-01 models have ever so slightly more aggressive cams, but thats about it. Besides some slight cosmetic changes and options they are pretty much identical from a performance standpoint.

In terms of mods it really doesn't take that much. A good I/H/E setup (or less in some cases ) is good enough for high 13's. Not super fast, but not super slow either.

Honda-Tech also has the best roadracing/auto-x forums period IMO. A ton of the guys in there race professionally or semi-professionally and really know their stuff.

Have fun, and if you get one keep it away from thieves. The bling valve cover seems to be quite the hot item (along with everything else in the car).

thanks everyone for the great responses, i will continue to browse this forum for info and insights. i live in cali and i know plenty of people with honda/acura cars that have been jacked. it is rediculous i think and feel for all those honest hard working people that get jacked by "scabs".

i look forward to learning from all of you.

Holy Moly! A knowledgable, well written and well informed new member!

We don't see too many of those!

Welcome, and remember that there is 3+ years of great info in the archived topics. I learned a great deal about many things R-related, etc, on this site.
