usually i would recommend a 250 or 500, but if you are sponsored by yamaha, and can get a good del, get the r6. thats more than plenty of bike for you to handle. and you could get a really good deal.

the dealer has me pay half on my new motocrossers and gets me all the parts i need and what not for free. bike rarely breaks down.. i have to buy my riding gear but then they get my name and number printed on the jersey and then some products and the dealers name on it.
I have been riding around my friends 98 yzf-600 and i feel comfortable with it and my sponsor said that they would have me pay what they pay to get the bike and throw in a helmet and jacket for free.... soo not a bad deal

If you get the sweet hook-up. I'd say buy it and then pick up a set of thrashed plastics off e-bay along with some frame sliders. Put those on, drive it around for a few months till your comfortable in it, then put the good plastics back. Just exercise some throttle control.

Just my take.

Yeah and don't put your leg down in a turn.

The asphalt is a little stickier.
