I had my A/C recharged on my 95 accord a few months ago, but it doesn't blow cold and didn't really blow all that cold when it was recharged. Is there a kit for this? Maybe the guy didn't evacuate the system. It is colder than not having a/c, but not much.
Should I try those A/C kits at the auto parts store?

1. replace the acumulator/dryer
2. replace all o-rings and compressor seal (if applicable)
3. place system on vaccume for at least 8 hours preferably 12 as any moisture will kill the pag oil used in r134a systems
4. recharge with proper amount of oil and coolant. make sure you use pag oil with a floresent die (as previously mentioned)
If you over charge your r134a system the compressor will cycle on and off and it definately will blow hot air so please check the level of charge as from what you said it may have been over charged

Where is the dryer located and what does it look like? Is it that canister by the headlight? When I had the A/C serviced and recharged, the guy checked for leaks and said there was none. I don't know if he evacuated the system or just added more refridgerent to it.
So how would I put the A/C system on vacuum for 8hrs? Does it come in the kit (vacuum canister)?
And on another note, I have another car (89 civic) that I took the a/c compressor and the radiator thing up front for the a/c out when I was doing some motor work. Can I just replace those items and have the A/C working again after a recharge?
Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming.

the reason you have to evacuate the system is to remove air and moisture
PAG oil breaksdown and R12 will turn into an ACID it can happen in as little as thirty 30 days
Usually the shop has a vaccume pump that the hook up to the system via the service ports.
see above for your 88 car you will have to follow the same procedure. the acumulator dryer is usually located on the firewall and has a pressure switch plugged into the top of it......it is a large can shaped thing with two pipes comming out of it. BUT on the honda accord 94-77 it is item #9 below
For your 89 civic it should be what is listed below ( I used a 4drLX auto)
#15

with both cars any time you open the system it should be
1. be flushed
2. all o-rimgs replaced
3. receiver (aka receiver dryer) replaced
