Default cable d-series trannies

are they all the same? i'm putting a d16y7 in an EF, and i want to know what 5spd trannies i can use. we have the clutch for a 92+ hydro already tho that we need to use.

i heard that the tranny input shaft is different for the 90+ cable trannies. something about the number of splines on the shaft. anyone have info on this?

i'm not talking about the 0/1/2 grooves on the end of the shaft. i'm talking about the 30/31 splines that slides into the flywheel

90+ are the same for clutches. but what ever year clutch you use you ahve to use the same flywheel

i thought you were going to try and use the hydraulic tranny....bummer

any 88-91 EF d-series cable tranny will bolt up. The Si tranny has nice short gears, while the DX and HF trannies have really long gears. There is some great info at:

http://www.gamesbbs.com/~dmoore/tranny.htm

Your 92-up clutch might not work with an EF cable tranny. You might even have to switch flywheels depending on what year tranny you get. If you need a flywheel, let me know and I might be able to locate one.

Hope this helps.

the clutch itself will work along with the flywheel, only thing wont work is the throwout bearing, so you will have to go get a new throw out bearing from honda for whatever year trans you get, get a 90-91 civic si trans or crx trans and you will be set

thanks for the input guys

obviously, the hydro mounts are all different, and it doesn't come anywhere near to bolting up in the EF

89+ input shafts are the same (20 spline). 88's are different (21 spline). 90+ flywheels are the same diameter. 89 is smaller than the 90+ and an 88 is smaller than the 89.

the si trans 3rd and 4th gear suck. use zc gears and an si final drive.

yeah the zc/si hybrid tranny is a bad *** set-up. I have it and it's great. HWY rpm's really are not as bad as everybody says

can i use a 90+ flywheel/clutch in an 89 tranny? or is it going to be too big?
