Which is better? and why doesn't AEM make a crankshaft pulley?

 

UR makes nice parts, but are they 2-3 times better than AEM? I seriously doubt it.
AEM probably doesn't make a crankshaft pully because it will mess up your engine. This has been covered before; do a search for more info.

 

I prefer Unorthodox Racing. Heard that pullies from AEM tend to slip.

 

I heard good things as well about the unorthodox pullys. I know a guy who has them for his 02 v6 accord and he said he felt a difference after they were put in.

I think youre referring to the cam gear and not the pullies. Regardless, I've got all the AEM ones and never had a problem. (Cam gear held up to the power put down with the last engine....because I know how to tighten it properly)

If you tighten at 18-20 pound-feet with red lock-tite, you will not get any problems. I locked the bottom end of my engine, but the cam pully never went out of timing.

 

I could have sworn that I heard that the AEM pullies slip. Doesn't alter my decision, though. I'm still going with Skunk2 for cam gears, and won't go with AEM if I decide to get pullies.

I will back AEM long before I back any other aftermarket company.

I have no problems with UR (I run their flywheel), but every time I hear an uninformed/misdirected opinion, it makes me cringe.

 

Removing the harmonic damper on any car that came with one OE is just foolish. It may give you some more power to run a smaller crank pulley, but when you blow the front main seal on your engine, it's not gonna be worth it. And it's not an if, but a when it will happen on an F22.

 

i have heard that aem pulleys slip also but dont know of anyone that has had that problem.

 

I'll repeat it again. I have locked my engine. brought it from approximately 3500rpm to 0 in a split second, and the AEM cam did not slip, even with all the inertia of the headtrain. If you follow the AEM specs, torque it right, and use red locktite, you will be just fine.

If your pullies are slipping, then your belts are loose. It's got nothing at all to do with the pulley

Yup .. I have the Skunk2 CAM Gear .. I went and had my car dyno tuned, I found that at least in my car I got the best results with a -2 degree setting.
