Anyone have experience with these chips that supposedly remove the speed governer and lower the vtec engagement point etc?
I am referring to the $20 chips you see on ebay.
Thanks in advance.

my friend put a "spoon spec" in his 94 accord, rpm doesnt go past 3k now, if that answers your question. might have been a "faulty" chip.
Nevermind the quality of whatever maps are on those ebay chips.... How good are you with a soldering iron? You need to desolder the factory ROM. Solder in a socket. And then you can install your new ebay chip with only-god-knows-what fuel and timing maps on it.

The quality of chips on ebay is crap. Plain and simple. They're usually crazy hacked up maps.....think about it this way: You're taking fuel and timing maps from who-knows-where and suddenly relying on them to run your car......
If you're gonna do it, do it right and have someone that knows how to make custom chips log your car on a wideband, alter the stock program accordingly, and burn you a chip with the new specs......or better yet get a hondata.....

My friend tried them chips twce for his GSR swap. He was chipping his obd1 GSR ecu with a Skunk2 program. First time, the chip made his car rev lemit at 3k.
Second time, it made his ECU do the same thing but when removed the ECU was done and would no longer rev past 3k....

Think for a moment. You are getting a 'mugen/spoon' chipped ecu for $20 bucks however their reservoir covers cost $35 a pair.
That should answer your question as to if the ecu is reputable or not.

$20.00 for a chip that promises you big gains and that they are mugen/spoon. Would you put something onto your ECU that you can get for $20 and let it run your car and promises 20-25 hp. Something smells about that and it is not a bargain.
