aem or injen
i'm finally gonna order an intake. but i see the injen short ram at $189 and the aem short ram at $109. these are on eautoworks.com. im sure both will increase my performance right? and both will help that sick vtec sound. any suggestions?
Go with a CAI/cold air intake both Ingen and AEM make them I've seen them sell for as low as $190, the power gains from them will far surpass the short ram. If your worried about hydrolock ask yourself how often does it rain in southern california? Just avoid deep puddles.
http://www.landspeedracing.com has them real cheap... **** their web page, call them up and say in ur SCC add they are advertized 175... they'll give it to you cuz like october of 2002 they were 175
not to hijack your thread, but what is the injen CAI made out of? aluminum? cuz im getting my BOV welded on it tomorrow and hope its aluminum hehe turbo install is amazingly fun

yup
, Most of them can, unless you buy the Race Division one.

Yup. Race Division. That's the one I have.
I don't think you can go wrong with either AEM or Injen. Just buy whichever you can get the best deal on.

i got my injen short ram for 100, and thats at an overpriced shopped so please dont spend 190+ for a short ram, i felt decent butt dyno gains from it, prolly mostly just sound but whatever, and yes the CAI extension is like another 80-100 bucks so its definately worth it, can take the extension off in may-april yadayada the rainy months...
Avoid CAI ... its a gimmick.
Cold air intakes pull air from your wheel wells which is turbelant air ... turbelant air is not as easily routed and compressed, therefore your not making significant power gains .. its simple physics. Cold air makes a loud noise ... thats bout it, the piping used on CAI's isnt even that thick so by time the air reachs the IM its warmed up again in the little aluminum oven we call a intake pipe.
If you still need proof, take a good look at all the circuit cars running the D1 in japan ... short rams, BUT more popular you'll find stock airbox's with a highpass filter. Honda's engineers were on top of their game when designing our motors ... the stock air setup is amazing ... all u need is to remove the bottom chamber and add a high pass filter IE spoon or a K&N drop inn ... of course that wouldnt be "Fast n FUrious cool" as wasting 300 for a CAI and making more noise and less power.....
The logical, and proper thign to do would be run highpass filter on a stock airbox....if your a forced induction look into a induction chamber system such as the ARC setup...it will improve induction by increasing the filter area ... but will not provide you with the turbelant air found in a wheel well of a moving vehicle.

I have a short ram right now and am switching to a cold air today actually. I think my short ram gets too hot, so i wanna try something else. Also, i saw some aem cold air intakes for 170, but that does not include shipping.
Personally, stick with the stock airbox and spend the extra money into a header and see some real gains.
But, if you have to buy a shortram, buy which ever is the cheapest, b/c just about all shortrams are created equal.

And where does the stock air box get its air from? oh thats right, the wheel well.
BTW turbulent flow has more energy than laminar flow. This is why good head porter put notches in the head to create turbulence which reduces drag (golf ball concept).
CAI air is going to be colder than air from a short ram. Short ram is sucking up hotter engine air and still heating up in your " aluminum oven". Start with colder air, end with colder air.

you....wow...anyway....
If you wanna go CAI, I recomend AEM over Injen because the AEM is powdercoated which is a little better at insulating the intake air, and I've seen dynos comparing a lot of intakes, and the AEM made liek 2 hp more or something like that. Also, don't get the bypass valve because cutting the CAI doesn't allow the engine heat to be conducted all through the length of the CAI pipe, and its also been proven you lose hp. You can even feel it. My friend has the bypass valve and you can feel the top half is a lot warmer in the same spot as mine after a hard run. I got my AEM for $189 shipped from http://www.coximport.com .

I certainly would never support *** Import, and I hope no one else would. The immaturity they have shown on this board is ridiculous. It has gone so far that this board won't even let them advertise on it.

wow, never read anything bad about them here. I ordered my stuff last summer and never had a problem with them. Oh well, thanks for the heads up.
