I cant believe it.... im boosted
well sort of
*this is long , and yeah sorry for the bad sentence structure etc.*
after a million years of gathering info and buying parts I finally installed it yesterday.
took my time and took the whole day to do it. Went through plenty of DR. Pepper
and my hands are all hacked up /bloody and hurting but I guess thats what you get with a limited set of tools(very limited..no impact tools for me
)
so the install wasnt too bad. I had to remount my i/c as the first time I mounted it I mounted it too far to the right but overall it wasnt too bad of an install. Just some of the small things that shoulda taken 2 seconds which ended up taking an hour which pissed me off.
Canuk SiR came over and helped me put in my DSM 450's and load up a map on the aem(As i dont have a laptop at the moment
) .
So it was like 3:30 and I was super tired and my g/f needed to go home so I decided to wait till today to fire the car up(yeah i know..weird)
I got up this morning and put some new coolant in and oil and checked over stuff
and then decided it was the moment of truth.
try to start and ..voila...it started (almost like stock... 3 crank sounds from the started)I had it open dp just for fun
and it sounded terrible...things werent right...it was running way too rich(the map was supposed to be good
) so i let it idle too warm up and to get the new coolant flowing. If i tried to rev it it would bog and almost stall. I was kinda mad.
so I decided i needed gas(as the light was on..stupid me
)
I go the back way to the gas station..terrorizing my nieghbourhood with my open dp i slowly made my way ...or at least tried to get to the gas station.
the car died on my while i was giving it some gas in 3rd in low revs.
i stop...try to start..nope..only will turn over.... i notice the aem wont turn on when i go to the on position on with the keys.
I run home(thank god I was close) try calling canuk..but hes at work.
I think.....hmmmm..could be fuses..so I run back..check fuses inside the car. Nothing. I think maybe its the aem so I switch to the stock computer and nothing...no start.
so,I check under hoood and for some reason the top left fuse had blown(15 amp) luckily I had spares and popped a new one in and went to the gas station and then home.I then had to go to dinner with my g/f and the car drove fine(except for the shitty map
and the stuff I expected it to be like from what Canuk had told me)
I get there and think.Oh crap I ran here on the stock computer. yup it was still hooked up.
The car drove kinda bad but way better on the stock computer with dsm 450's and quite possibly a little bit of boost and it didnt throw a code or anything. LOL.
i was quite amazed.
SO anyways.
The aem needs some big time tuning but I think ill just run the stock computer this week as I need the car to go to work. Luckly work isnt too far!
So yeah time for some tunage and this car is soo gonna rock
oh yeah, im also on stock pump at the moment as i bought a pump that was bad so im in the process of getting one. the car is gonna be driven like a grandma for the next couple weeks.
coles notes: put stuff on, had some troubles but am alright. car needs tuning badly.
*ball bearing turbos own..it was spinning so fast while idling! and when you shut the car off it takes a good 30-45 secs for it too stop spinning! woo woo*
set up:
stock b16
inline pro mani
dsm 450's
a nice turbo
custom i/c and piping+ greddy type s bov
aem ems.

I havent really experienced it yet I think. I had lostened the bov so that it would vent right away(it actually does it while i accel) and its nice that I get to hear it(although quiet right now) its still cool.
the turbo whining from open dp was awesome aswell.
I brought it up to 5k a couple times and I think i felt some turbo power but really I think it was just the computer getting the fuel mixture a little better there and it took off. ive only given it a max of 1/2 throttle.. too many things not right at the moment.
Im more happy that the car runs alright at the moment and that I installed my stuff befor Ryan Autry

It has been forever since you started collecting parts for your new civic! I still remember that post when you got the GT30!
I hope everything works out for ya, and I can't wait to see a graph!!!

You know, I have exactly the same problem with that same fuse. As far as I know, that fuse has something to do with the fuel pump. I use a 25amp fuse there, and it still breaks every 2 weeks or so, depending on how hard I beat the teg. Don't know what the hell could be causing it - anyone?
btw, congrats on the turbo - treat your car nicely, and it will treat you nicely back

my maps don't suck! Its the other people that use them
soon we'll get that thing running right. I know for sure I gave you the swame map I'm using, and you know what my car runs like, so it should have been the same. the ptob's gotta be with the fuel pump. get a high flow and you should be fine.
At least I got cold start cranking down pat

Glad to hear you got it running!
I should have mine in and running later this week....Hopefully i'll get that WB done this week so we can all gets some street tuning done.
your stock ECU will throw a code 45 after a couple days (rich lean code), if you're running 450's on the stock ECU. Try leaning out the AEM at idle to get it running a little better till I can finsh the WB controller.

well i dotn have a laptop now so I cant do crap
im looking for one!! i ran it with the aem lastnight and it seemed ok.but it was lean(probably cause of my stock pump)
i hope I dont blow that fuse again. but if I do I have extra.(of course)
we need to have a w/b sleepover party

You do realize, regular turbos either don't spin when at idle, or do so in a slow stop/start choppy fashion? Nice acquisition. :>
And, yah, you can't apologise enough for your sentence structure, lol.

not any of mine all the greddy ones spin good @ idle
and a few of the 3SGTE turbos do too

sounds like your fuel pump is drawing too much current. you can try larger guage wire on a relay
