Default Honda security system worth it?

So Honda sells a security system for 6th generation civics. List price is $188, but Handa-Accessories has it for $60. But is it worth it? Anyone have any experience with these?

Still, for $60...

I don't have the stock alarm system, but I do have a stock remote opener on my '99 Accord LX (which I bought from handa-accessories.com), and am happy with it. A hell of a lot cheaper than the dealer would have been.

For 99 Installed you can get a Crimestoper Alarm, with Lock and Unlock, and lights on and off, it's better then stock and the stock mition sensor sucks, u can add on to Aftermarket

Viper 790 VX gets a Big ++ From me
Also Cliffort Vangurd if u don't want to get jacked.

I'm not a fan of fancy expensive alarm (as I do have one) because all alarms can be beat. The key is deterrent. If an alarm can scare away a potential lowlife, then it does the job. The basic Honda alarm is good enough IMO. That's me, and everyone is different.

I would recommend a club and autolock for added protection in terms of deterrent.

I do have a club and autolock, and I know nothing will stop a theif. My car look stock, there's nothing flashy about it, but there's still always the chance someone will try to take it, so I'm just curious if this stock Honda alarm will delay him for another minute; or if it's total crap and won't do jack.

Other than the distance you get from the remote, why does stock alarms suck, they do exactly the same thing as an aftermarket one, you can add a shock and motions sensor to any stock alarm. In fact there is less of a chance of a factory alarm failing in comparison w/an aftermartket alarm. Some factory alarms are not thing more than aftermarket ones in fancy OEM boxes.

well the instructions seem like it would all be easy to install too, like everything is there for it to install to. like plug & play.

I just flipped through the installation instructions, looks pretty straightforward. Somewhat similar to how I installed the remote entry system into my '99 Accord LX.

If you do buy it and install it, let us know what you think. Personally, I wouldn't want an alarm system, but then again I am in a low crime area and usually don't bother locking my car doors.

when my alarm goes off i don't have the 8 diffrent sounds or a beep beep from the horn. just take your hand and hold it on the horn for 30 seconds without letting go is the sound i have.
it might be really annoying but it does turn heads and everyone and there mother can hear it. i would look into setting yours up the same way. i it!

heres the plain simple truth if you flaunt your ride no matter what security system you put in it if a thief wants it they'll get it the only thing you can do is just try to slow them down (security systems don't do any thing but offer false comfort to those that have them) take my advice just wire up a starter kill switch and a fuel kill switch or something similar!!!

i wouldn't know the first thing about wiring kill switches, and i'd be sacred that if i do a crappy job, then what if the fuel pump turns off while i'm driving down the freeway.

The problem with factory or OEM alarms is that they are installed in the same location in every car of the same model. It would only take a thief seconds to disable it. Jimmy the door, reach under the dash, yank the brain out and now your car is ready to hotwire. Most pro thieves can do this in less than 30 seconds. Especially on a Honda. Hondas with factory immobilizers take a little more time. An aftermarket alarm that is installed properly (i.e. wires integrated to look factory, brain is well-hidden and hard to get to, siren not plain sight, backup battery, interior siren, multiple starter/ignition/fuel kills, etc.) will be a lot more effective than the OEM system. If you combine an aftermarket system along with other manual devices (club, autolock, etc.), you'll have a very secure package that will give you peace of mind.
