Default Security enhancement-FUEL KILL SWITCH

well it took me about 5 bux and 2 hours of my time to set up a fuel kill switch off of the fuel pump. the hardest thig was finding a place to moun the sucker. some peopl eput them in the glove box somein the cneter console others under their setas or in the trunk. but to me it sounds like if something hit it while you were driving you'd be screwed so i found a great outof the way place to mount it and keep it 100% out of site. guys i would highly recommend this if you live in a highly populated area. or even if you want to do an easy and satisfying project on your car one day. if i told you wher ei put my switch i'd have to kill you so don't ask. if you want instructions on how to do it ask away.

Please help us prevent theft in the future by telling us the following:
1.list of parts needed, and possibly where to buy them.
2.a how-to instructions with pics if possible or at least a diagram.

i'll tell you guys how to do it give me a day to get some pics and i will set it up so you have a good idea as to how to do this. as far as mounting it in the lil box under the stereo, the whole point of a fuel kill switch is so the theives won't get your car. you put it there and they will find it in a heartbeat.

i'll give you guys some basic instructions though:

1- pull the back seats out and your center console all the way to the lighter and ashtray. here are some pics for the peeps who don't know how to tkae out the back seats, i, however, am not taking out the center console, that is a thing you will have to find out on your own. very easy though.
there are two plastic clips
there is a lil lever so to say on it turn it one way or the other mine just happened to be DOWN at the timeuntil you can see the silver rod that is attached to the seat. push the clip off
after this push the seat to the outer wall and you will be able to take off the rear seat. There is a plastic bushing on the inner rod that holds the seat careful they break easily. repeat on the other side. ponce you pull the seats tops its time for hte bottom. grab a ten mil wrench. unscrew that bolt. the seats are kkept in with metal z clips up front so it takes a lil finagelin to get it out. after that the fuel pump is under the bottom seat jsut directly to the left of my hand in that last pic and that is where you find the wire to to do the switch.
the fuel pump looks just like the little circular metal cover you can see under the sluminum bar in the third picture.
2- locate the fuel pump-it is directly under the center of the bottom of the rear seats
3- there is a pair of wires coming out of the center one yellow one and one black wrapped in that ribbed balck plastic tubing
4- the yellow is the positive and the black is negatvie- cut one of them your preference.
5- get about 10 feet of 14Gauge speaker wire put male connectors on one end of both wires
6- on the wire you just cut from your fuel pump, put female connectors on both ends.
7-plug the connectors together and wrap them up in elctrical tape.
8-route the 14gauge wire through the arpet to the center console area
9. buy a two prong 3 amp switch and mount it in a very hidden spot. you have to figure out where. i would recommend a black switch.
10. route the 14 gauge wire to the switch with zipties.
11- put female connectors on the end of the 14 gauge wire and connect them to the switch
12 put your car back together and wallah one fuel kill switch installed.

if your car won't start when you get this installed flip the switch and you should be good to go. vroom vroom. and now you have an added antitheft devic ein your car

Where can I get those parts? radio shack?

I have no clue but will this interfer with an alarm at all? You know those alarms that cuts ignition when the alarm is armed and someone's trying to turn ignition on...

or you could just go under the dash by the fuse box, or the drivers side kick pannel and find the yellow wire with the green stripe and silver dots, cut it and run a basic switch. that way you use less wire and if something ever happened you wouldnt have to remove your back seats to fix it. and if you want just go under the dash in the same bundle of wires and cut the black one which will kill fuel pump and the ecu. dont worry it doesnt reset the ecu.

I have one in my car. Works like magic. I just flip the switch where I feel somewhat uncomfortable about the surroundings of where my car is parked. Sometimes when I forget I switched it on, the car starts momentarily (prob from fuel still being applied prior to shut off), but then dies off 2 seconds later. Kinda embarassing with girls in the car, but prevents theft.

nice instructions/how to... and yeah you can buy the parts at any electronics supply store, radio shack, electrical isle of most autopart stores, etc... it doesn't interfere w/ the alarm btw....

Isn't there another wire (under the dash) you can cut instead of the one at the fuel pump?

the further away the wire is cut the less chance they have of determining where your switch is

I was gonna do this myself, but I have remote start, defeats the purpose of the remote start to kill the fuel pump. I am gonna find out if my alarm can activate a relay to turn it on and off. it should, I'll let you guys know what I find out.

You can get your remote to activate a relay.

Run a search in the Security forum...Tekken already posted a bunch of info on how to do some really nice kill switches.

I re-did mine in a way that's similar to this...
http://www.ae92gts.com/ae92gts_antitheft.html

I'd use a relay...safer and more flexibility.

I just read my helms manual. It looks like the only way to do the fuel pump cut switch is under the back seat since the relay is right there. We can do an ignition switch by the ECU and that will kill everything, but looks like it is too easy to notice for the thieves.

so i can't cut the yellow wire by the driver side kick panel that someone described?

as i said before you can cut the fuel line by the kick panel. the yellow wire w/green stripe and the silver spots. if you have any further questions just E-MAIL ME.
and BY THE WAY the more wire you use the more likely you will have a problem/short in the wire, plus wouldnt it be great if you get stuck somewhere and have to pull your back seats?! think about that when your at the mall at 1:30 in the morning after a movie!

i don't think a brand new outdoor plastic wrapped 14gauge wire will short unless someone about three hundred fifty pounds gets in the back seat. even then i would seriously doubt it. if anything shorts, it's gonna be the switch.

i've seen that basic switch idea done quite a few times, its a good idea. But awhile back I found out about a different way to do it. A little more complicated, but IMO a better overall method: http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthrea...mentary+switch

The neat thing about this one is the type of switch used. You'll never forget to flip the switch when you leave the car...it does it automatically. And the idea about putting it under carpet is pretty neat too.

That's when you say "uh oh, I ran out of gas!" heheheh

Anyways, there are a lot of different ways to do this effectively, each with their own pros and cons. I was going to do something pretty sophisticated, but then I did some thinking and realized that a simple solution would work just as well and take less time and money to do.

Making your switch's connection near the fuel pump itself is good because even if a thief knows that's where it is, he has to pull out the back seat or find the wires or switch. There's a ton a places to hide the switch and no shortage of different routes to run the wire for it, so that part doesn't have to be the weakness. And you aren't limited to just interrupting the power to the fuel pump... there's also a common wire you could cut to the fuel injectors (I'd be hesitant to do that one though), various other ECU wires, etc. Don't bother disabling only the starter, because the car can be easily started without it.

Also, if you just use a simple on/off switch, you can just leave it on and so other people (ie mechanic, valet, car wash attendant, etc) can start the car without you having to tell them about your secret switch.

As long as you're smart about how you do this and don't half-*** anything, I wouldn't expect any problems at all. Here's my tips:

1) Get adequate guage wire. 16 or maybe even 18 guage should suffice for the fuel pump.
2) Make sure the wire is stranded not solid. Solid will break if you flex it too much.
3) Run your wires so that they wont get flexed a lot or risk having the insulation get worn down.
4) Use good crimp connections and make sure they're done right (ie not going to come apart)
5) Use electrical tape to wrap things that you want to stay in place or protect from moisture. Wire ties can work much better in some situations too.
6) Get a switch with an amperage rating high enough to handle the load of the fuel pump or whatever you're disabling
7) Put the switch, wires, and connection to the fuel pump wire (or whatever you decide to disable) somewhere that's hard to get to and/or find.

Good luck.

i connected mine to the yellow one and the som bitch doesn't turn my car off

i am using 14 gauge wire and a 2 prong switch i found laying around... i have a 3 prong switch... should i try that and make sure it's not the switch's problem? If there was a short in the switch, wouldn't he fuel pump not work because it wouldn't complete the circuit?

thanks
