Default heatshield ok to take off?

I took off the heatshield off my stock header. Is it ok to take it off? Will it effect anything or do harm to the engine?

It's suppose to block heat... well on most Honda's it doesn't do much, but when I still had my alltrac turbo, when you take the heat shield off, the hood spot above the exhust manifold would get freakin hot... I guess in the end messing up your paint.

That is what i think it is for as well cause on my red 240 it turned pink starting in the area over the exhaust manifold. Also it helps heat up the header and heated o2 sensor faster so your car can run more effincently.
