How do you set the Distributor timing?
I know how to hook it up and I put a timing light on it, I noticed the notch move back when I move the dist forward or backward. So that much I know. However I heard for a ZC 16* BTDC is the best timing, well what I don't understand his how do you know the degree? My light just flashes, it gives no more info than that. So how do I know the degree I have it set at?
You'll be pretty limited with a light that just flashes (don't worry, I bought a cheap one like that too) and on my a6, there are 3 timing marks. The middle one is the stock settings, then there's one on each side, and it's 2 degrees (I think) retarded and advanced. Rotating your dist. towards the firewall is advancing it, vice versa towards the nose of the car. Feel free to ask anything else. HTH.
So I can only really advance/retard it acuratly by 2* with my crap light? How do I just make it the correct timing. Its been a few hours now but what am I lining that center mark up with?

On the timing belt cover there's two pointers, then farther down is a single pointer. Line up the single pointer in between the two pointers and get the middle mark on that. Bada bing bada boom! And by the way, crap lights rule!
