Default h22 vs. JDM h22

I was wondering if it would be worth it to just spring for the JDM H22 instead of the USDM H22? Are the gains much better?

I don't really have emissions in my state so it doesn't matter on that aspect, but will I have to do a lot more work in terms of getting the JDM to work? Or is it not worth the trouble and just go with the USDM? Thanks!

theyre exactly the same as far as getting them wired in..the difference is that the JDM has higher compression, which makes more power, and as you add mods youll get more power as well due to the higher cmpression, the JDM will be the moer powerful of the 2 and also are usually cheaper..peace

the JDM H22 also has more aggressive timing curves with the higher comp. pistons to make more power.

If you go with the JDM motor, you will have to use your USDM fuel rail.

It depends on the ECU, has nothing to do with the motor. The stock JDM P13 cuts off there.

can I use an engine management like AEM EMS to control the shut off? Or is there an easier way to get around the shut off?

if you plan on keeping the stock internals for awhile it might be worth it. butif a rebuild is coming, no point.

depends on your ultimate goal. let us know, we can guide you

basically I have someone who will probably buy my h23 off me so the upgrade won't cost me too much, for an additional 40 or so horsepower. Plus there are more stuff available for the h22 then there is for the h23...and I've always wanted vtec

My plans? Not sure, but I know the h22 is a good platform to start from...I'd like to be able to run mid to low 13's on the track, other than that I just want to enjoy the lude

with a JDM h22, and all the bolt ons.. cai/h/e/vafc/cam gears/ecu/ignition/Manifold and throttle body and some port work, you can run mid to low 13s..im waiting to get my Euro R manifold a TB port match it, and finish my ignition, and i should be running around 13.5 to 13.4 ..with slick i could see verrrry low 13s..im also adding a Zex kit for the bigger cars, so my daily driver will run lower 13s...and mid 12s on the bottle...right now im in the mid to high 13s.. 13.7 @ 102..had a 13.6 to 13.5 run going and missed 4th ugh..anyways, the JDM motor is where id start..and research your mods, to maximize your motors potential..peace

USDM is the way to go. I even have one for sale! Seriously though, the JDM is better if you're going to stay naturally aspirated. You may have a few more issues intalling it though, like RHD wiring harness and fuel rail issues. Good luck...

dont you need to use the intake manifold and fuel rail? the intake maniforld on a jdm is made for a different app. i dont believe the jdm fuel rail is interchangable with the usdm one, is it?

Yea it is. Only difference is where the fuel line comes in from.
