Default B18b or Suspension...

If you had $1800 and a 2000 CX would you do suspension (ground controls and koni yellows) or engine (b18b) first? The car will be daily driven and autox-ed on the weekends. (In case your curious, I chose the b18b because it's cheap and will give me the torque I need to get around the track.) Thanks in advance.

1800$ for just ground controls and koni yellows? If you're serious about auto-x'ing or track use, get some Tein's or some other full coilover set. That motors nothing if you can't take turns or put the power to the ground. That's why high horsepower mustangs and cobras, get beat by Miata's.

unless the b18 is a once in a life time opurtunity, i would go with suspension. like the guy that said up top, no point to a good motor if ya cant handle the turns. but since it's a 2000, ur suspesion should be able to handle the b18 for a while untill u have the $$$ for the suspension. go with the motor cause they can haul some serious ***!!!!!!!!

I wasn't planning on using the whole $1800 on suspension...it would be the ground control/koni's, and tires. How much would that Tein set-up cost?

I've seen Tein's go for 900 used. And 1200 brand new. With that you can still get some Falken's.

Tein is not legal for some classes

Go with the suspension.. the motor swap will put you in a much harder class.

Get the suspension first. Learn how the drive the car and tune suspension. Then go for more power, as you will be be better equipped to handle it.

nice choice with the b18b

but yea i would wait on the motor for now,

koni's with ground contols will be plenty for what you need, then spend the rest on some nice tires and a rear sway bar

of course i could tell you to wait and learn how to drive the car first

thanks for all the responses guys...still deciding The ground cotrol/koni's would be cheaper too, which would leave money for the frount strut bar and tires...hmmmm.

Either way the car won't be competitive in it's class for AutoX. I'd say you'll have more fun with the engine upgrade.
