Default Mugen Radiator Cap

Is anyone running the Mugen Radiator cap on the ITR? My engine gets VERY hot and I was wondering if this would help keep it's temperature a little lower...

Thanks

It will help a little bit, get the thermostat also. Or get a bigger radiator. Have you tried water wetter?

You could also slide the heater to full hot

Low temp Thermostat, bigger rad and oil cooler will help your engine runs cooler.

You could try my setup
Fluidyne 40mm radiator, Greddy oil cooler, spoon thermostat, rad cap, and thermostat switch

I'm running the mugen radiator cap, and thermostat the car runs much cooler than stock, have never had a problem with it getting past the 1/2 way point on the gauge even with 20 minute sessions at the track.

I just flushed my radiator and put in:

33% Havoline Coolant
65% Water
2% Water Wetter

(not the exact proportions, but you get the picture).

My car still gets heatsoaked after one hard run so I think I need more.

I'll try the radiator cap first (since it's easy to install and I won't "waste" my new coolant flush).

Then I'll try the thermostat, and if all else fails, I'll get a radiator (avoiding this since it's MAD $$$).

Thanks for the reply's!
KJ

P.S. What's the downside of running a Higher Pressure Radiator Cap?

The Mugen Radiator Cap and Thermostat help a lot. It runs a little cooler on the street and helps cooling on the track. Good Stuff

Get a low-temp thermostat before the cap.

But a thermostat will only allow coolant to start flowing earlier, but eventually once the coolant heats up...the low-temp thermostat will be useless. (correct me if I am wrong).

Go here for the Spoon cap. It's like $33 and some change.

Yes u're right the thermostat allow coolant to circulate earlier. But since your car is moving the coolant keeps cooling down at the radiator. Like it opens at 68c, so when it gets to that temperature the coolant starts to circulate and cool down the engine anyway to prevent the temp gets any higher. That's why the temp needle stays low after u got a thermostat. It only goes higher if u got into a traffic jam, when the car is not moving or moving fast enough to cool down the coolant. Then it will go a bit higher but STILL lower than the stock normal temperature.

I don't know if this make sense to u but just sharing some thoughts here

OK, that makes sense, but I'm worried it might be bad to run my car below the "optimal" temperature all the time.

I gotta think of some sort of heat shield for my filter.

I MIGHT even have to get a HOOD scoop!!!!
