Default If a VTEC controller gets stolen, will car run?

If I have a Fields or APEXi VTEC controller installed and it gets stolen, will the car still run?

Yes it will still run. But depending on what ECU you are using, if it is a vtec, it will trigger the vtec when it is suppose to. But if not and you are setting off the vtec through one of the external systems, your car will run with no vtec.

So if I'm using the P72 ECU that came with my car, it will just run on the stock programming, VTEC activation point and fuel curves. Basically, it will run like stock. Am I on the right track?

NO, it wont run like stock. When you hook up V-afc (and feilds most likely), you have to cut the vtec wire. One side goes into the vtec controller, the other side goes back out. So, if someone steals it the vtec wire will be broken, and the engine will throw a code. It WILL run, but no vtec.

You don't actually cut off the Vtec wire that goes into the ECU. You are merely tapping into the wire. So when they steal the external unit, they are pulling the wire that was tapped into the original Vtec wire. Unless they yank the actual Vtec wire that lodges into the ECU, the Vtec will be activated at its original setting.

b20b, have you ever actually hooked up a vtec controler? The vtec controler cant control anything if the factory signal still goes directly to the vtec solenoid. Look at these instalation pics below. Also, i just got done instaling one in my own car over the weekend so i think i would know.

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but it sucks when someone gives you false info, expecially if they don't know it.

Default The car will not run properly at all...

...you will have many opens in the factory wiring. The VTEC controller is wired IN-LINE with the factory signal wires and many codes will result from it's not being there.

Now if the thief was nice enough to rewire your car for you after he yanked out the controller then you're set.
