Does anyone get pulled over without there 3rd brakelight???
no i dont think you'll get pull over for not having third brake light, that'll be the dumbest sh*t, if you get pull over! but i think its okay, its not like they gonna know, as long as you have two.
Getting pulled over for not having the third brake light is pretty dumb BUT they can do it. It is illegal for not having a third brake light for cars made after a certain year (not sure the exact year). What they probably will do is pull you over for something else like speeding and then add the no third light as another infraction.
or if you're driving at like two in the morning they will probably pull you over for no third brake light so that they can give you a sobriety test....cops pull me over all the time when i leave my friend's house at like 2 am w/ some lame excuse like speeding and one of the first questions they ask is if I have been drinking....then they say that they are going to let me go.....it's a bunch of bs

I hear ya. Got pulled over for licensed tag light bulbs out in the early morning . The patrolmen actually cut a u-turn to catch me. Once he caught me I had already pulled into the chicks driveway that was riding with me. She starts freaking out cause the cop never turned his lights off, and the lights keep flashing onto her parents bedroom window. Probably looked like a domestic dispute from the neighbors . He only gave me a warning though.
It just depends when they see you. Just don't hit the brakes if ones around lol. Actually your car might be old enough where you don't have to legally have one.

yes, cops can pull you over for no 3rd brake light. I've also been debating on taking off my wing or going with an ITR wing. Also if you get rear ended they may try to use that against you, and with insurance companies wanting to save money it might work

hmm...as far as I know having no 3rd brake light was in fact illegal in CA. 1982 or later or something like that must have a 3rd brake light.

Uh, you might want to talk to the Department of Transportation about that one. I'm pretty sure it is required on cars made after a certain date (which was many years ago). Your state law may not say anything about it, but that doesn't make it legal.

It certainly is, at least on cars that originally came so equipped from the factory (i.e. '86+ cars and '94+ light trucks). Removing the CHMSL eliminates an effective safety feature. After having the experience of being rear-ended <U>with</U> a functional 3rd brake lamp, I would definately not want to do something to increase my chances of that happening again. Why someone would want to intentionally decrease safety in the interest of minor asthetics is beyond me.

In your future attempts, at the very least, try to post the appropriate information. The code pertaining to <U>stop lamps</U> (which is obviously what we are discussing) is 24603, not 24600.
I can assure you that no "owning" has occurred, specifically since the original poster is from NJ, where a CHMSL is required. I recently failed NJ inspection because of a non-functional CHMSL that I had inadvertently neglected to re-connect after doing some work on the wiring.
The bottom line is, illegal or not in your respective state, removing or disabling the CHMSL is a poor decision. Any "harassment" received from law enforcement regarding it is, IMO, a positive thing if the result will be fewer people driving without the lamps.

If it made you look, then it actually worked.
What exactly is CVC 24600? Maybe somebody could post it up here so we could all read it.
