Default question about intake for 4th gen ludes

Ok. I bought an intake for an AEM short ram intake for a 92-96 prelude vtec. I have a 93 jdm h22a motor and I bought the intake because I am trying to get a bar sticker for my motor. When I went to the ref though, he failed me because I didn't have a starting air valve(I didn't even know about this valve ). He also told me that my intake was missing a nipple on it for the vacuum line that goes to the starting air valve.

I was confused over this cuz, so I checked my helms manual. For the 92-96 h22a1's and h23a1's it shows a vacuum line coming off the starting air valve that attaches to a nipple on the stock intake tube right before the throttle body.

My aem intake doesn't have this nipple on it and I need it to smog my car. My question is, do any of you 4th gen prelude guys know what I am talking about and are your aem intakes missing this nipple? Did I not get the correct intake?

The ref told me that he checked the carb number on my intake and that it matched that for a 92-96 prelude vtec. He said that AEM must have messed up with designing their intakes. But how can that be!?!? I'm lost on this one guys. Please help.

BTW. Does anyone have a starting air valve lying around for an h22a1 or know where I can get one?

actually they dont, they only come with the nipple for the valve cover breather hose. I just put a breather on mine and ive never had a problem with smog checks, also wtf do you mean by refs? just go to a shady shop that will pass it for you , peeace.

I'm trying to get a BAR sticker for my jdm h22a swap. I'm here in so cali. and the cops are cracking down more and more on imports, so I'm trying to go legit. I don't want to have to worry about having my car taken away for an illegal motor swap.

Ok so AEM did mess up. I think I'm gonna try calling them. I might just have to have a nipple welded on to my intake then.

What I did when I put my CAI on and it did not come with that nipple there either. On the stock intake where that hose connected the nipple was actually just a piece of metal pipe with a rubber grommet around it. So I pulled that out of the stock one and drilled a small hole in the CAI inserted the metal piece in and I was all set. My intake isn't metal though because I have the Iceman and where it connects to the throttle body it is rubber so it was real easy for me.

Also what is a BAR sticker??

Man-o-man I guess I should be glad I live In Kentucky. When I installed my AEM CAI I just plugged the vacuum lines and left it at that. I don't have to get tested for smog legal parts and whatnot. Good luck though!

I think i know what hose you're talking about. When I got my car, the CAI had a vacuum hose stick into the silicone coupler between the intake and the TB. It was just a hole picked in it and the guy had stuck the hose and it's little metal tip thing into the coupler. Looks easy enough, might save ya some trouble.

and while i'm at it.....

My AEM CAI has the hookup for the valve cover breather AND a nipple that connects to a line (metal) that runs to something on the frontside of the intake manifold.... SO if that is the valve you're talking about, my AEM has the nipple.

my iceman didn't have it, so i stole the nipple from the stock intake and poked it through the piece i'm using to attach the intake tube to the throttle body, works fine

My AEM has it and the kit came with a black rubber thing to plug it with. Since the JDM H22s dont have the air boost valve that you are talking about, I have the supplied rubber plug in that spot.

My AEM CAI vacuum hose hooked up fine, but I barely passed emissions tests, cuz the cam gears were advanced. Our emissions tests are almost as bad as California's.

Some of you say your AEM intake has the nipple and some of you say it doesn't. I'm still confused on this issue. Does the starting air valve only come on h23a's or is it on both the h22a1's and h23a's?
