Skunk2 H22 Dyno PICs and INFO
hola, i have been talking about getting my car tunned for what seems like forever and yes it has finally happened! My mods are listed in my signature and hondata tunning was preformed by Jason AKA st00pid. I give much thx to Jason for his time and expert help in tunning and to Tom for setting me up with the tune
.
first some info about the build. i am running skunk2 stage 2 cams at the moment and have nothing but GREAT things to say about their performance. As u will see from my dyno charts these cams make great power after VTEC hits and make peak power at 7500 RPMS. these cams seemed to like having the VTEC engadged at a amazingly low 4600 without ANY hestitation at ALL.
i went ahead and put a link to the dyno chart because the pic is rather large: http://www.imagestation.com/pi...6.jpg
for those that are to lazy to click i ended up laying 190 hp and 152lb of torque on run 23. after the car was turned off and the chipped burned and installed we did another run and i dyoned 193hp and 153lb of torque, i gained a 3 hp after only 5min cool down. i think with the car cool i could easily dyno high 190s and after i get my skunk2 manifold/hondata IM gasket i can promise that i will be making over 200 at the wheels ALL MOTOR.
thats without even touching the bottom end!
IMPORTANT THINGS U MIGHT WANT TO KNOW. tunning is key when it comes to getting nice numbers from these cams. just dropping the cams with my chipped p28 yeilded SHITTY as numbers. NOTE: this was before the hondata and tunning
again the pic is rather large so i will jut post a link: http://www.imagestation.com/pi...2.jpg
for those to lazy to click i dyoned 172 hp and 119lb of torque. compare that with my hondata and numbers and u will see i gained over 20 hp at the wheels and 34lb of torque.
a couple of closing things to rember about stage 2s u must UPGRADE ur valvetrain
with stiffer valve springs, i would also rec. titanium reatiners. the stock bottom end on a h22a4 can handle 8500 rpms, altough i would not rec. revving it that high on a daily basis. lastly i am not sure what to say about the tensioner issue, i am using the auto tens. and it has been fine for me for the last 3000 miles but u may want to change to the manal tens. setup...............
o and here are some pics of the build and some old pics of the car

thx and happy tunning

WTF?? That's untuned though. What's more, that was using a (more-than-likely) ebay chip.

FINALLY real numbers on the skunk2's. I have been waiting to see these since last year or when ever it was taht they came out. Looks like they put down some pretty sick power. I am asuming that since you have both a VAFC and hondata that a VAFC was not enough to match the air rule needed for these? All in all nice setup.
You make almost the EXACT same numbers as I did, before my pnp. I have the same setup, but I am using Ferra valves and only stage 1 cams.
Oh and I did mine on a stock p72 (gsr) ecu.

This is just for comparison... I made 194HP/ 158tq with a slightly ported head (Match ported only), Web Cams (148e-267 grinds), port flow springs, factory ecu, and a field VTEC controller, DC header, and an AEM 2 1/2" CAI. The bottom end was stock. Good power can be made inexpensively if done right.

thats without tuning, you can't just drop in cams and expect great numbers.

This is very true. If I had spent all the money on everything that Mr. "Skunk2" has and only got those results I wouldn't be too happy about it. Maybe he just needs more tunning, the more **** you put on/in your engine the more proper tuning is required!

i actually dont have everything that SKUNK2 has to offer, i am just missing that intake manifold, lol. dont forget that 190 is after 23 straight dyno runs, give me one run after a 30 min cool down and i think i could gain some extra power
. i gained 3 hp just from a 5 min cool down.
and lets say i have connection when it comes to skunk2 stuff and while i did spend a good deal of money i know for a fact very few people can beat the prices i got my parts for.
one last thing peak numbers are not everything when it comes to buiding a car, right now the car is FUN to drive and thats way more important to me than my peak hp numbers.

any explanation for that? </TD></TR></TABLE>
i really dont want to go into to much deatail and explain about dynos and dyno charts. lets just say i could have made the graph look better, but i wanted to show how the cams and tunning actually did on the dyno.........
i do not mean to sound like a *** and yes i know the torque curve could be cleaned up a little but the power curve is looking mighty nice in my eyes
thx for the responses

just in case some of dont understand i dynoed 172 UNTUNED on a craped out POS chiped P28. i dynoed over 190 AFTER TUNNING and after 23 staright dyno runs.
i hope this has cleared a few thing up
after i get my skunk2 IM and hondata IM gasket i will hit the dyno for some more tunnig and i will be sure to post my resluts. i am shooting at 200+ to the wheels ALL MOTOR w/ a STOCK bottom end
