some puzzling Zc-Si tranny, clutch, axle, questions
i have a 88 SI w/DOHC ZC motor, 88 SI axles, 88 SI clutch, well my tranny blew today(it seems as it doesnt like 8 PSI, hahah) so im wondering, if a get a tranny other than 88, i know i will need a different clutch to accomodate the year if the tranny, but what about axles, and also, what is the best axle setup if i use a jdm zc tranny w/lsd
well if i have to get axles anyways then i would rather go with the zc trans, what axles are needed for this? so u saying i could use 88 SI clutch with 89?
Uh, not exactly. Any 88-91 tranny will physically fit with the flywheel. The issue isn't exactly the flwyeel. It's the number of splines (teeth) on the input shaft, and the clutch disk size.
this is info that needs to be FAQ'ed:
Year clutch disk/flywheel face # of splines
-----------------------------------------------------
88 190 21
89 200 20
90 212 20
91 212 20
Years have a 7/8" nose on the input shaft.
Your best bet for future compatability is to get an 89-91 tranny, flywheel, and clutch.
If you NEED to use the 88 tranny, you can (and should) use an 90-91 flywheel, pressure plate, and the clutch disk for an 87 Prelude 2.0L Fuel injected model. This clutch has the 212mm diameter AND 21 splines on the input shat

ok thanks, really i already knew the clutch size differences, i just wasnt sure about the axles, well a local junkyard has my friends old 91 SI with only 90,000 miles on it, so i have another question, the day before he crashed it and it went there, he put in a aftermarket clutch of some kind, stage 2 i think, what are the chances of it still being good, it has been sitting there for 3 years now, but the tranny is still on and its all intact, maybe ill go there and try to get the tranny, axles, and clutch assembly off that today
you don't need to change axles - all 88-91 axles from DX or Si are the same - only the HF is different - use any year tranny and the matching clutch, flywheel - to use ZC tranny you need the ZC intermediate shaft and 90-93 integra axles

all the 88-91 axles are fine as long as they are not HF..
the Hub end is smaller..
If you get a ZC you will need different axles..

I too have an 88 si with ZC & si tranny
whoever said the si axles for all years are the same is correct
only if you go with the zc tranny will you need axles and intermediate shaft etc
