semi-OT : Lojack
I know theres a security section, but I figured R owners are one of the best sources to talk about theft with
. I also didn't get much of any responses in that section.
How do you guys feel about Lojack? Only other tracking device I heard about is one that could be checked online and also comes with a fee every month (which I dont want to deal with). What do you all feel about Lojack and any other tracking devices?

been talked about 1000 times.
I think the main problem with lojack is that it is only localized and doesnt work across a large area. thats what I heard.
Of all the stolen ITR threads Ive seen, I think Ive seen only one(if that) that was actually tracked and recovered with lojack.
If they want it, they will get it.

Hmm... i don't know it's like 700.. so may not be worth investing in. I do like that it lowers the insurance.
The shop i am getting an alarm installed at seemed to be pushing me to get a tracking device more than an alarm. They said it was more effective - and they aren't even the ones sellin the tracking device, or installing it. Apparently, those could only be purchased and installed by LOJACK themselves.
How local is localized? Will it work in all of CA.

I've heard of more Rs being saved from lojack than from caralarms.
I imagine the early response feature is worth the money too since lojack probably doesn't work if you car goes into a cargo box on a ship, or if your car gets striped to the bone before you wake up for work in the morning.

Check out the cop cars in your area. If they have 3 attenas in a triangle on their trunk, they can track lojack.

I have seen about a half dozen reports of Lojack-equipped Type-Rs being stolen over the past three years. Only one was recovered (if I recall, the car was abandoned and may well have been recovered without the Lojack).
Your 2000 ITR has the chip-in-key ECU thing, which is going to defeat the casual punk, so if your car is stolen it will most likley be by a professional. Professionals know all about Lojack. I would not bother with the alarm either.
Spend your money on a lower insurance deductible and beer.

I have lojack.
Car stolen.
Car recovered about 5 hours later.
Even if it wasn't recovered lojack gives you $$$ if not recovered.
Well worth it in my opinion!
BUT, I bought it with the car, so it was in my monthly payments. It is kind of hard to pay for it all at once.
Use your best judgement based off of the following:
1. Is your police department active in hunting stolen cars.
2. Does your police department have Lojack equipped cruisers to find Lojack stolen cars
3. Will you get a good return on investment... if your car gets stolen will the money lojack gives you equal or be more than the money you put into buying the product.
etc. etc.

i have lojack and i bought the car in R.I. I then moved back to cali and lojack is fine. to make sure you just have to call your local police and speak to the chief officer in the auto theft dept and make sure. simple as that...
