b16 tranny
i just put a b16 in my 89 civic and are all dohc vtec tranny's gears closer together, i know going 55 mph in 5th gear, my tach is already at 3500 rpm's, does this seem normal, or could my tranny be built up a little....also, it feels a lot more torquier than my friends b16 that he just put in....could it be because i put in a stage 2 racing clutch...just curious
It depends on what tranny you have. The 1st generation B16's came with a few different ones. The S1 is the closest geared tranny, and is perfectly normal. I remember going almost 5K rpm when doing 80mph. As far as yours being torquier. I'd say it has to be with the close gears. You get higher in the powerband much faster.
Are there any other markings/stampings on the exterior part of the tranny so u know which one u have? I have a DOHC B series cable tranny but the sticker is no longer there and i want to know which one it is before dropping it in. I know on the SOHC trannys they have a stamping by the fill plug to let u know which one u got...

I have the same thing on mine..2 hoses coming up..i was wondering the same thing..i think it might lead to a tranny cooloer or somthing when it was in the car it came out of..i think i might just splice them together..what did you do with the hoses coming out of your tranny?

I think its a power steering bypass valve...what i did was swap over my SOHC speedo gear unit into the B series tranny. Looks a bit cleaner and its easy to do.
WOW sea bass that seems like extremely high RPM's for only 70mph. I'd say something is off whether its ur tach (i doubt) or ur speedo. I know the S1 has the nice short ratios but dang, not that short.

I dont know if it USDM or JDM, splines should all be the same with B series trannys(it was mated to my B17 when i got but i feel it was changed and is no longer the nice YS1). Dont ask me how i know...i just do. NO LSD. Any other ways to see which one it is without opening it up??

i just put two bolts through each hose and called it good....the engine is such a tight fit in my car that you really have to look hard to see the hoses anyways

there you go, it will tell you about how fast you are gonig and the gear and such. then you can identify your tranny. Sounds most likely like a S1/J1.
