The 2 things that this calculator doesn't take into account is the max power and drag. If the drag is higher than the power output at 8400 rpm then you won't reach 8400 rpm at 5th gear.
My ITR can't reach the rev limiter at 5th gear, because the power output is dropping after 8000 rpm and the power output after 8000 rpm is not enough to cope with the drag....
I think it's reaching 8100 rpm in real (not on the tach)

Figure it all out to your hearts content, also keep in mind tire/wheel size so here's another link to a tire size calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

FYI you can play with the numbers yourself just like the original poster did. this calculator is taken from http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi

Top speed is like big peak numbers on a dyno. Nice for the magazines but doesnt mean **** in real world performance.
who gives a **** if it will do 180mph but cant get out of its way on a road course?

George: I doubt anyone here will blame you for that. Ovals are unique, and not too confidence inspiring.. but keep driving them and you'll be going as fast as the car can go eventually
I just hit a verified 146 MPH when I hit the rev limiter on our MD chassis Dyno. The Speedo was reading over the 150 mph mark. That is with a 4.785 fd in a US ITR trans with 205/40/17 tires. Dyno's don't lie (unless you program them to)

Mattj</TD></TR></TABLE>The question is: will you be able to hit the rev limiter again on the road? This time there is air drag.... It's useless to test the top speed on a dyno, because there is no air drag.....

they just set up one of those "you are going XXX mph" radar booths on the road by my house. Maybe ill test it out and see what I can get haha jk
Ryan, who thinks to himself, it is on a very nice downhill straight though...

excatly, after like 130, the air keep pushing the car, it's totally different than on the road

I have reached a little past 150mph myself but you know when you get that fast the speedo isnt that accurate. You are really not going that fast but it sure does feel that way. I have only done it twice but would never do it again on the street. Just a word of advice.
