Engine noises
When I turn my car on and let it idle, it makes a clicking like noise. But when I step down on the clutch, the noise is gone. What is that noise I'm hearing.

Yep... probably.
Yep... probably.
Mainshaft bearing, not throwout bearing.
Anyone care to explain to me why you would even think it was the throwout bearing? Clutch is up, release spring pulls back the bearing, the throwout bearing isn't even moving!?!

I still think it's the mainshaft, are there any other symptoms? Does 1st and 2nd gear sound like there whining? You would have gotten more responses if you titled it clutch noise or transmission noise.

Do you have to push the clutch more than halfway down for the noise to go away? Or do you just have to touch the pedal?

I have to push the clutch all the way down to the ground.

Damn it! You're right; I read it backwards!
When my transmission did this it was the mainshaft bearing.

NO it doesn't whine.
NO it doesn't whine.
Input shaft bearing.
Fix it now or you'll be replacing a whole lot more than just that one. If you can take the tranny out and follow a Helms, you can do the job yourself. Otherwise, pull the tranny and take it into a shop - you'll save the R&R Labor.

more than likely it is the throw out bearing then.

I am having the same problem... i have to step on the clutch for the noise to go away and mine does wind when im in first or second gears.. how long do i have till i cant drive it no more???
Sounds like the splines on the clutch disk hub are rounding out with the clutch disk rattling on the input shaft. more than likely it is an aftermarket (cough** ACT) clutch. It happened to me. If the splines are supposed to be 2mm across each for ex. and the forces exerted on the disk have caused the metal to fatigue, the tracks on the hub grow to say 3-4mm each. you get a rattle that sounds like a click then a knicka then a knock... push in the clutch it goes away... the stock disks are forged on the inner hub... most aftermarkets are not... my ACT disk friction surface would have lasted longer than the inner hub... sad huh. I had about 1/2cm of play in the disk if moved from side to side on the input shaft... put on an LS disk with 22K on it... no play at all... and its been in my car for another 21K hard driving with an OLD JDM B16a PP that looked like it was on the bottom of a lake.../GSR throwout bearing with 20K. Still holds fine with 160/122 at the wheels...
