Went to the local subaru dealership today...
I walked in today and talked with the sales manager about the new STi. He said he was expecting to get only a half a dozen next month, and also planning to ask 5k+ over sticker, he said 300 a year were expected for america. The guy turns out to be a salesman who worked for my dad a while back at lexus. He eased up a bunch and told me that he can have the warranty cover any mods id like to put in, and told me that subaru dealers are going to be asking 10k over sticker "like the new EVOs by mitsubishi, but wouldn't bother if someone walks in with 5 or 6 over." I saw some nice pics of the STi, unfortunately none were on the lot for a test drive if i was able to convince. Im crossing my fingers im able to land the first one off their lot in June. -Shawn
there will also be dealers not charging over msrp.
for a car like this, you have to shop around.
i've already found a place where i can get it for nothing over MSRP.
i have a written agreement signed by the dealer manager.
you just have to look around and find a honest dealership.

There are two links, or lists, that show which dealers are charging MSRP and which ones are charging over.

We've got the same thing going for the EVO, too.

it might be about 3 hour drive but i think its better than paying more than MSRP.

Wow! even 1600 a year is rare. Rarer than a type R for sure. I was thinking they would at least send 3000-5000 a year. I'm sure they'll all sell.
First threaten the dealer to give it to MSRP or you'll tell Subaru USA then they won't get them for a year for doing that and jacking the prices

try that, I am pretty sure once these cars are on the lots, you will be able to buy through this website at MSRP.

According to recent magazine reviews that I have read, there are going to be 3600 Sti per year and 6000 Evos per per year.
I would never pay over MSRP for anything, unless we were talking a GT3 or something. I cannot justify spending anywhere from 5-10k extra on a $30k car.
George - what reliability issues have you heard of thus far? Only thing I'm aware of were 2 faulty transfer cases. That was also the rumor why they were delayed coming out... PM me.
I think George might just be referring to Mitsubishi's overall quality control and reliability problems they've had in the past.
My father is a subaru tech. If any of you are *really* interested in buying one, and have some serious questions about it i'll pass them along to him.
Read: i'm not going to waste his time with "how do you add more boost to it" or "how fast will it go" bullshit. He'll look up TSB's for me if i ask, and he's probably already taken a 2 day class on the car.

i went a couple days ago...our dealer had two blue ones in stock-one with the gold wheels, the other with silver...just sitting. waiting to be bought. good thing is no $10k mark-up.
...but you'd have to fly down here to honolulu to buy one
ps-sales manager is expecting atleast 18 more in the next few months(and they've already sold like 5 or so since a couple weeks ago). acura only got like 4 type R's in one year of production. they won't be as rare as the R i think, and any info saying so might be a ploy to steal more of your money

Turns out the Sales Manager at the subaru dealership used to work for my dad at his old lexus dealership, I dont think it will be to hard to get it for msrp, he sounded really unsure about how much ovcer msrp, almost like he could just guess what he wants right when the buyer walks in. I love the STi but wouldnt pay over msrp for any car except a dinan m5
