Default b18c1 half of a b18c5

I thought i ask this in the the type r forum casue its the type r forum. Is it true that the b18c1 and the b18c5 share the same block. If so, if a b18c5 head was bolted on a b18c1 block would it make similar power to a full fleged b18c5. For fun lets say this engine was mated to a type r tranny.

There are distinct differences between the two engines, the most notable being pistons;Type-R pistons are higher compression. The crankshafts and rods are also different. With the same pistons, power output between the two blocks would be comparable, all else being equal.

Don't forget the b18c5 has an oil cooler (althought this doesn't effect "performance" in the sense I think you are asking about).

I realized that after I posted. I wondered how long it would take for someone to catch that. Can't slip one by you, "D." BTW, when did they stop putting them on the c1? I think it was on the 96 c1's, but not the 97's and up, correct?

The Type R also has a better balanced crank, different width/design journals, lighter/ stronger rods, tighter quality control, and a low-friction coating on the pistons. I think the block is also stiffened up.

journals are all the same. block itself is the same as well, though the block-transmission
brace is a little more beefy

oil is cooler. it's not a very effective cooler though IMO, 1st gen RX7/2nd gen RX7/Conquest etc would all be more useful, mount up front, adapter on the oil filter mount point, etc.

Oil "Cooler".... it cools oil. Running your GS-R or TypeR hard will cause your internals to work more which equals to more heat which will eventually start burning oil... so the oil cooler help prevent that.

Personally unless your "Tracking" your teg or running at high RPM ranges for a long period of time... your not going to really need it (if anyone is looking into installing one)

since we're comparing the two blocks.
can anyone tell me what the difference in terms of crankshaft?
how can i tell if the crank is a C5 not C1? I mean, the stroke
is the same. I know the C5 crank is balanced, is C1 balanced?
Thanks

ITR Crank weighs A LOT more and has a raised "R" on it.

Also rod bearing codes are WXYZ instead of ABCD

Aren't the crank and rods moly coated in an R as well? or were mine just covered in soot

On the B18C5 note, is there any difference between a 96-97 B18C5 and a 98-01 B18C5?

There was no 96 B18C5.

The intake cam on the 00-01 is more agressive than the 97-99.

So not worth the $500 or so to get a newer B18C5?

I would because of the mileage but then again mileage means nothing when 99% of the itr motors out there are driven hard.
