Default Electrical problem, maybe you've seen it...

Or something similar.

a few weeks ago I had a rush of electrical problems, and I haven't driven too much since.

All at the same time, my gauges went out, my blinkers went out, and the first click of my windshield wipers went out. My hazards still work, and my cluster lights up... but none of the gauges work. I don't know how much gas I have, etc, etc.

The first click of my wipers doesnt do anything, but the next 2 work fine. My blinkers don't work whatsoever.

Anyone seen anything like this, or know what it might be? Just a switch? bad cluster? It's a 95 civic btw, si cluster.

thanks.

I can't tell you exactly, but I can guess. I have chased a few electrical problems in all my Mustang part swapping.

I would start by getting a Haynes or Chiltons and tracing out the wiring diagram. I sat on the couch one night and circled every circuit that I was having problems with and then traced them out. Wouldn't you know it, they all came to the same ground. Went out to the car, found the ground and 5 minutes late my 2 month long problem was solved.

Also you might want to check fuses first. After that a wiring diagram is going to be your best bet. Did all these symptoms start happening at the same time?

yeah, I checked the fuses a few times.. haha

Yeah, it all started happening at the same time. I tried tracing the wiring diagram, I'll try that one again I guess...

Thanks!

sounds like a ground wire issue.
Have at all recently messed with your engine harness, or take off a ground wire in the engine bay?

Umm... nope. I took my stereo deck out, and that was about it. I checked the grounds already in the engine bay, most of them at least.... Hmm.. I guess I'll have to look closer.

The first click of the wipers thing is kinda throwing me off.. kinda weird.

thanks.

Yeah the whole wiper thing is a little strange, but maybe (hopefully) it is just a coincidence. What year and model car do you have? Give me a list of all the symptoms and I'll do a little more checking. 2 heads are better than one. I have a few neighbors that are big Honda guys. Heck, my wife has even corrected me on crossed spark plug wires before (did I just say that out loud?).

hah.. cool.

It's a 95 civic DX hatch. with a 94 si cluster I bought about 3 years ago.

That's really all the symptons I have. The first wiper click doesn't work at all. The second 2 do. The blinkers don't work at all. The hazards do. None of the gauges move, ever. The cluster still lights up, and so do the lights.. (well, the srs light anyway.. I think the rest do)

i think that's about it.

Thanks for your help.

peaces.

well, I switched my cluster out with a friends to see if that was it.... nope.

I traced some parts of the electrical digram, and I may be able to find something.. I'm not too great when it comes to electrical.. we'll see.

Any other suggestions?

try c-502 (as per the honda etm) its a 12 pin connector behind the under dash fuse box. it has wiring for all of those components. maybe its loose or corroded.

well, looking at the electrical diagram it looks like it could be junction C417. I haven't check c502 yet though.. i should check both probably.. can anyone confirm any of this? Also, is C417 under the dash in that mess also?

C417 is also under the left side dash, but it shouldn't be that one. C417 is a junction connector. It's not plugged into anything. Is your radio working? Anything else not working? c502 has ABS,guages(not guage lights),indicators(blinkers), seatbelt reminder, and stereo runnung through it. The connector itself is located right on top of the fuse box. If you look at it from the open drivers door, you will see 3 connectors attached to the top of the fuse box. C502 is the one 3rd from the left. Directly underneath of it is a black relay box that plugs into the fuse box itself.
Let me know how it goes, I love a challenge!

wow, very cool thanks! I will take a look today or tomorrow. Also, I'm not sure if my radio is working cause I don't have one installed right now. That's kinda how this started, my radio stopped working so I removed it... It didn't totally stop working, just none of the buttons worked.

I'll check soon and report back.
