Default Lowering questions

hey guys, i'm a newbie here...Just got my '01 integra gs-r (barely, was fighting over this other guy for it), I love it, except i don't love the fender gap. It's quite large if you ask me. Anyways i wanted to know how much it would cost to lower it? What do you guys recommend me doing? I'm not into performance, i just want to make my car look better while not hurting the performance, but keeping a somewhat stock ride feel. Also, does the aem cai make the car loud? Or only loud when hitting vtec?

I have a 2k gs-r, essentially the same car as yours, I wanted to lower my car also when I first got it, but I wanted adjustability, didn't want it too low. So I decided to go with ground control coilovers basicaly height adjustable springs. They'll run you about $280-300 for a set, might be a little high in price but I'm happy with them, and the ride is okay, not exactly like stock though. About the AEM CAI it'll make the car louder when its under load, or your giving it more then partial throttle, I can't tell a difference in once I hit vtec at 4400 rpm but once I hit the 6000 rpm I can hear the secondaries in the intake manifold open up.

a few questions about your ride heh sorry...but does your car bounce? is the ride so stiff that it's uncomfortable? or just a tad more stiff then stock? I wouldn't mind more stiffness since the stock shocks are a little soft on cornering. Most would consider the sound from an aem cai to be a good thing right? I'm not sure if i'll like it or not. Will it make my car sound smoother? or more rough and obnoxious?

It makes your car sound real good! Trust me I have friends with cars that AEM CAI are not available. They are jealous! Its worth the money and it lets your engine breath better. Oh yeah I have Neuspeed Race Springs with Tokico shocks. To be honest its to low and the catyltic part of the exhaust rubs when I pull in to steep driveways. I tried switching out the shocks for Ground Control Coil Overs. When I recived them i was frightened, the shocks where half the size of the neuspeed which meant a bumpier ride (maybe). We fiddled with it for a while then gave up, we realized that ground crontol sent us the wrong set. We never reorder, I am looking into Eibach Springs, they have a good reputation. So my word of wisdom make sure you get stuff added to your as a plan to futher build your car. (Body Kit, Exhaust, Turbo or Nos Etc Etc) I have to raise my car now that I want a body kit so i lost $ in the Neuspeed Springs

Oh yeah by the way check out our website we have AEM Intakes for cheap
And Ground Control Coil Overs Also

i thought the same thing as you when i got my 00' GSR. I went with skunk2 coil-overs that way i can put the height where ever i want it or to accomidate different wheels. the ride is stiffer and bounces over pavement transisitions but that is the lack of koni yellows the coil-overs were $275 well worth it

Hey skunk2 do you recommend Add on Coil Overs like Ground Control with Tokico Shocks or a Ready Coil Over set/kit Like Koni Kits or Bilstein Kits. The diffrence is the preset Coil oVer on the shocks. I don't want a bumpier ride Neuspeed race is a bit to bouncy for me

i forgot the AEM CAI I love the intake. it deepends the sound under hard acceleration and really opends up at 6000 rpm's then quiets down a little. i added a DC 4-1 header and that increased the sound after 6 grand then opened up more at 6500 to 7000

if i had the money i would of went with a coil-over system like tunabe or the koni systems they are ment to have a stiff but smooth and soft ride i had to space out my suspention upgrades because i want more HP so i am making other upgrades before the shocks but they will be soon to come.

Basically, with the AEM CAI, you'll be trading in that high pitch scream for a deeper and somewhat louder growl. It's not crazy loud. I think it sounds a lot better IMO. About the suspension, I'll be getting the eibach pro-kit and koni yellows within the next couple of weeks. I hear a lot of good things about this set up. I've had the car for half a year and I've had all I can take of that gap in the fender. I'm surprised I waited this long.

Your shocks are new, so they should last awhile before the stock shocks die. The ground control should ride alright with stock shocks, since their spring rates aren't crazy.

Since your shocks are new, you will be okay...for now. Plan on getting new shocks eventually down the road. The stiffer lowering springs have higher springs rates and will wear out your stock shocks much quicker than the stock springs. Plus with higher performance shocks your handling will improve greatly. I have Koni Yellow's, and got them from the Tirerack for $580, shipped. I'm still on stock springs though, and this tends to make me hit the bump stops occasionally. I do plan on getting springs in the next couple of months though, to improve looks and solve that problem. If you do get shocks eventually, get something like Koni's that are oil filled. They're better than the gas filled Tokico's or KYB's and will last longer.

I recommend H&R or Eibach springs.

Remember that 3/4 of an inch is the saftest you can lower a car and still be able to align the car using stock equipment.

Also, you'll definitely have to look into buying a performance shock that will accompany the new springs later on since your stock shocks was not designed to work with the aftermarket one.

Research what you plan on doing with your car. If you want room for improvement, then I'd sugguest you purchase adjustable coil-over systems by the mentioned companies.

Good luck

Get shocks now. Save yourself the trouble of having to take the struts apart two times. If you can't afford to set up your suspension correctly now, wait until you can and put everything on at once.
