which one has better response at 3-5 rpm

??? AEM has a very noticable torque increase at ~4k rpm.

Ive had both, and in my experiences, the AEM makes mostly topend power, but with decreased throttle response. The icebox makes power all through the powerband and has much better throttle response. The AEM in vtec sounds like nascar, and the icebox a bit louder than stock.

Get the comptech Icebox, I would.

You don't need both intake parts, you can just buy the icebox and the filter for a grand total of $238, not $400.

The Injen will perform very close to the AEM.

The comptech will probably be your ideal intake since you want some power with good throttle response.

AEM/Injen is good for the top end and drag applications.

After witnessing the Mugen in use... the discussion starts and ends with it.... the thing works.... but its expensive.

none of the above.

K&N filter on a stick(or stock tube) is the clear winner.

I am perfectly satisfied with my Injen SRI. For the money, i think, its one of the best out there. I just hate the way CAIs sound and i just think comptech is over priced. Just my .02

I`ve had a K&N in the stock box and now a complete Icebox and comptech intake. Feeling no difference and unable to dyno the intake I agree with that.

What's not working with the search engine? I found it right away.

Just search 'Mugen intake' in the archived threads for the ITR forum. Or search for topics created by kkim in the archives.

As I said, I use it too..
But I don`t understand why it "owwnz"...

The box ist stock size, so no difference here. And if you remove the resonator and put a hose from behind the corner to the stockbox...what`s the big deal with an icebox ?

C'mon Sven, it's USDM BlInGnEsS yO! Especially with the shiny intake pipe.

And No, It doesn't OwN... It just says that Comptech Ownz your $$$.

I have to agree with this to a point though:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I have had both as well, and have to say that the difference in "FEEL" between the AEM and Comptech could mostly be attributed to Throttle response. Sound is another issue that people get stuck with thinking that louder ='s better or Something happening that Must be good.

I do stand behind the Comptech Icebox, not the shiny arm, stock is just fine. The Throttle reponse with the Icebox is crisper than with the AEM or the stock setup and an equal comptech filter. I don't have dyno numbers for Just the icebox or the box as opposed to the AEM, I do however have numbers for the Box and a Spoon header with high flow cat.

I have to say that for throttle response alone without wanting to go into a flywheel, the Icebox is a decent upgrade. But, if you choose to do a FW, you Must do the FD as well, and I'd definitely go with the 4.929 again.

But, as for power, The Header is the #1 quick bolt on that can realize more immediate and noticeable power.

So if you're on a budget and care to learn from others then, get the K&N filter and run the stock airbox. If you want more power then get a well designed header and high flow cat. This is speaking about bolt on's and mild upgrades, Not any crazy all motor setups.

Money spent to improve the ITR intake is money that could be better spent on other mods. Trust the people who've been down this road already.

If you dyno the icebox you can`t rely on that numbers because the systems lives with fresh air which is moving during the ride... and not while the car is on the dyno... Fans can`t replace the airflow.

I choosed the Icebox additional to my throttlebody/cat/exhaust setup... Seems to work very well because the car is fast.

I've had an AEM for a while, and I just can't justify spending any more $$ on an intake, unless its the moogen one. I say if you already have the AEM, dont spend the extra $$ on anything else.

I got my comptech used. Thats why I jumped on that. I've also used the AEM, and to me it just makes alot of noise. Never dynoed either set-up so cant say which one is better, or which one makes more power here or there.

But I can tell the difference in throttle response between the two... I dont think I would pay full price for either intake. My plan was to just run the K&N filter and stock box. But KKim was selling the Icebox at a decent price so I got it.

Chris N, you've had the ***** intake, AEM, and now the Mugen. Care to explain if you feel any difference between the three?
