Default friend's 98 accord engine blew, H22 sitting here, need some help on installation. thanks.

98 accord DX coupe, trans shifts fine. motor started knocking really violently the other night, then gave up. time for a new motor. i can get an H22 from a guy in the area for $900, full pullout of a friends wrecked prelude type sh.

i believe both cars are OBD2, what mounts, axles, and wiring am i going to need? i hear a lot of people saying that everything can stay the same, with the exception of the driver's side motor mount.

sorry to waste time, i know this subject is talked about a lot, just wanted to get some clear facts that the search function couldn't provide.

Not positive on 98s, but I think everything should be a direct bolt-in. Just be sure you get a Prelude ECU. The F23A5 engine in the DX wasn't VTEC, so you're gonna have to do the proper wiring for that. Otherwise, it should be pretty straightforward. Did both cars have the same type of transmission (meaning, were they both manual, or both auto?)

It was my understanding that no H22 was a "direct bolt-on" for any Civic, I think there are some modifications that have to be made.

the SH had ATTS, that is going to be a headache to swap in correctly (eliminating ATTS), its a different tranny, mounts etc

ATTS? Is that transmission specific? Then can you bolt the accord tranny to the prelude engine, and gain the beninfits of a lower final gear ratio also?

atts is similar to an lsd, correct?

is it possible that the atts has its own computer, that can be wired into the accord harness?

or are we just better off using the accord trans, axles, and mounts?

The transmission is exactly the same bolt pattern as the h22 and h23 trannys. You just have to make and adapter plate on the engine side of it at the half shaft. Here is a site that has pretty good directions on how to do it. http://www.ian.clendaniel.net/gallery.noatts. I have a h22 from a sh with a tranny conversion and have had no problems.
