Default info on 4th gen civic hatch

I am looking at a 91 Hatch tomorrow night, 114,000 miles, and 5 speed but its a DX model. Coming from driving a prelude I know little about the older civics. I want to get some info about the car. What engine is in it? How much does it weigh?........Is the B16 hype or is it a good choice? I dont want to make a race car out of it, low 14's would be my goals for the car. I searched but found limited results, i want to get first hand info from people who know. One more question, will my GSR wheels fit? I know a lot of questions, but any info would be appreciated.

Engine = D15, 90something HP
Weight = 2100LBS or so
B16 = good motor (as long as torque is not a big concern) but you will need to convert to multi point FI to put in a b16
GSR Wheels = Yup, they fit.

yeah it has 92hp
the only problem i see with the dx is that it has dual point injection which means only 2 injectors. but doing a mpfi swap isnt that hard, i just did it so i know.
i agree that the b16 is a good motor, and low 14s isnt that hard to get with a hatch, what like b16 with a jackson racing supercharger, youd probably be in the 13s. good luck

1st Gen B16 with bolt-ons will easily do low 14's with full interior. My car is gutted, but all I've got is exhaust and a K&N drop-in filter.

And as far as wheels, ANY 4 lug civic or Integra wheel will work fine.

Hopefully the car will be nice and we'll have a new member to the EF board..

Thanks for the replies, I test drove the car last night and if everything checks out with my mechanic on friday the car is mine . I'm confident though, it drove like new and it doesn't have any rust or flaws in the exterior. I talked him down to 1,650.00$.

But its a four speed manual, I thought this was odd. Is this going to cause problems swapping in a b16 or b18? I don't imagine it would because the tranny is coming out, but i just want to make sure its not going cause any setbacks. And about the dual point fuel injection, how is it going to cause problems if I am swapping out the ecu, intake manifold etc. And what about that foot long shifter, thats going to be the first thing I change. I can't wait to see what my black GSR wheels are going to look like on the car being that it's a blue hatch.

70 HP, damn that little 1.5 is getting ripped out as soon as possible. Is there anyone who has experience with doing a motor swap with this particular STD model? Mods please dont lock this, I need all the help I can get, and there is a good chance there is somebody in this forum that will info on this particular swap. Thanks

Man, would you just buck up for that B18c1...so you save a little longer for the motor, you'll be happier in the end! By the time you get around to putting the motor in, you'll be out of school and have a job where you can afford to mod a GSR motor.

There is about a $1400 difference between the b16A 2nd gen and a b18c I would go with a b16A an spend the extra $ on goodies for the motor.
You will need to pick up an OBD0-OBD1 conversion harness also to do the swap.
Good Luck.

B16A a relatively easy swap, but most of all it's super cheap. I mean, the motor only costs $1,150 from HondaMotorsOnline. 2nd gen B16's will run you alot more. I just recently dropped a B16A into my '91 DX and it's a great motor for the ED/EF civic!
