kbb priced a 2000 s2000 in "good" condition (which this is; gouge in the front bumper, wear on seat bolsters, etc.) with 75k miles to be $16k. The brake fluid is dirty, but the car overall looks decent. I think people, b/c of the mark-up flurry that surrounded the s2000, have bought into the dubious conception that the s2000 is an "investment" vehicle, it's not. Unfortunatly, people got seriously gouged, and paid upwards of 55k for a 30k car, the market has since softened, marketedly, and the "value" of these cars has been adjusted, and for the people that paid the inflated prices, well, they've realized that the floor just fell out from underneath them. If this guy's got all the service records, and if the car passes a Honda PPI then it's a decent buy, you could probably get it for 14 TOTAL b/c trade in is roughly 13k. Let's face it, people lost their *** on this car, those that overpaid, and now they're stuck. The dealer's gonna bone 'em on the trade in, so the only choice they've got is to sell privatly, and if anybody DOESN'T pay face value for one of these cars now, they're simply stupid.
74k+ miles on a 2000 S2K. That's a lot of miles in 3 years. Besides, the 2000 S2K came with plastic rear window on the top, without defroster. BTW, I test drove a 2000 S2K at the local CarMax. That car had only 19k miles on it, but it showed signs of abusive usage. The heatshield under the car rattles, the brake wasn't very reponsive and the engine sounds weird. The final word: I wouldn't bid on it unless I took a close look and test driven it. Otherwise, the price is good.

Well, for reference, my '99 prelude (that I bought new in November of '98) has 107k miles. Mostly freeway, but I've also done a lot of trackdays. The car doesn't show it's age, and is up to dat on ALL it's maintenance. Anyway, I wouldn't expect to get more than market value, ever. Back to the s2000's, as you said, the one you saw was beaten on, and, unfortunatly, I fell that these cars, as they trickle in, will be ragged on an beaten. Finding a gem will be tough, regardless, market value is market value and the s2000 can't fetch what it used to be able to.

I still believe that the seller was very forwarning to any bidders. In my opinion the car hides more potential problems. Good deal if it is a clean title.
