not ur usual AUTOLOCK thread
has anyone else seen it? its yellow, and it locks the shifter to the e-brake handle... i think it was an AUTOLOCK brand... i saw on in a car show last weekend, and i dint see the owner, nor did i have time to analyze the usefulness of it...
I've done it with a steering wheel club. Just took off the ashtray, and extend the club between the shifter and the parking brake handle; the longer part of the club goes into that hole from the ashtray, so it can't be pulled up. I guess it just slows thieves down, but if they can bust/pick the lock they'll take it out eventually.
Autolock Protector locks the gear lever (or automatic selector) to the handbrake. --Quickly fitted and highly visible it has an easy fit snap-shut locking mechanism, with a radial pin tumbler lock with 10,000 key variations.

I personally think this kind of link should never be posted in a public forum.

I saw the link over 6 months ago...and I can tell you that theifs are very aware of the latest hardware, hell you can get a repo man magazine. It's better that you're aware of what's out there, and not having a false sense of security.

If this had been a thread about how to break a custom security device, i may be remotely inclined to agree with you.
However, this is a commercial product.
Therefore, thank you for proving you're retarded.

I am very cool with Austin's response.
With that being said, I still think there are many amateur thieives and joy riders who are not actively aware of these stuff. I personally think there is no need to give them more incentive although it is a very good idea for us to know Autolock is not unbreakable. For professional thieives, everyone knows there is nothing that can stop them. Again, just my $0.02.

I am not sure what kind of comment is this, but thank you for telling me that I am retarded.
I am very polite when I express my ideas. I didn't call any names or point to anyone, and I respect everyone's comments. My starting point is clearly from good heart and is for everyone's benefit, no matter you agree with me or not. So please tell me what did I do that proofs I am retarded?

agreed..
aside from someone using this tool, is this shifter lock pretty sturdy/a good investment?
i mean, most theft deterrants can be overcome one way or another.. but as far as warding more amatuer type theives off, this sounds better than a club or something..

i guess if u look at it, u can just unscrew the shifter, and move the lock out of the way... not so sure about how it attatches to the ebrake, but if u can remove it then its pretty worthless
Checkout this device http://www.disklok.com/ I got one for my girlfriends car last year. They are rated top in the UK for physical deterance. The shortest attack time I've seen (by somone who knows EXACTLY where to attack it) is 12 minutes using various power tools (and making lot's of noise). It's a pain to carry around and a little hard to fit but the pay off is that it's a very good deterent (IMHO)

Why spend good money on an autolock when in reality it is a fairly easy thing to get around?? A false sense of security is imposed when using these devices. The best defense is multi-layered security and a smart car owner. Knowing about the devices such as the club buster spreads knowledge about what is out there.
Most Type R's are stolen by being towed. Some sort of boot device is much better imo.

They have those in the US too - I think "the club" people make a similar product.

I can't agree anymore.
But I will consider autolock as one of the layers of security. It deters the amateur and joy riders who might not have the autobuster and slows down the professional a bit (well, few seconds here and few seconds there, it adds up).

I personally think there is nothing you can do if they tow it. Heavy boot is too cumbersome. Those U-shaped ones are completely useless. As you said before, there is nothing better than a multi-layered security and a smart car owner.

wouldnt it still be possible to drive with that steering wheel lock thing. cops would just think its some stunna with a yellow steering wheel to match his yellow R.
i really dont see that doing anything, unless that bar on top catches on somthing so it cant rotate.
