Default Anyone have anything good or bad to say about JL audio W7's?

I am going to be putting a JL audio W7 in my 95 CX. The box was made by JL audio for the speaker so it is a nice box and it has the proper airspace. Also I will have a Memphis Audio ST1500D amplifier powering this. Also along with this will be Memphis Audio 6.5's in the doors and 5.25's in the rear speaker locations as well as Memphis Audio tweeters in front and rear. Alpine 9813 head unit and Alpine G320 digital EQ. The amplifier that will be powering the seperates will be a Memphis Audio 4 channel of some kind. Anyway tell me what you think and also I will tell you that I am getting all this stuff new. From my god fathers stereo shop. All together it will only cost me around 1200.

The only thing bad about the W7 is the price. I wish people would stop buying them until the price drops enough for me to be able to afford one.

The w7 is an awesome speaker. I just sold a 10w7 for a buddy of mine who switched over to two 12w3s. The twelves weren't enough for him, so now he's buying another 10w7. So he's going from two 12"s back to one 10", if that helps you any. The sound quality on these things is amazing too.

BTW, are you (Evil Wizard) still interested in helping me drop that motor into my hatch? I know it's been a while and you probably don't even remember...

You can't go wrong with a W7. I'd reconsider if the ERAG320 is really necessary. You have a just as much processing capability built into the 9813, that by using it, you'll add another component in the system you don't need too.

I want to hear a w7 in action....

At the car shows, the w7 guys never play their systems. I heard a pair of 12w3's in a beetle this weekend at the dub show. JL definately gets my respect.

own one. love it. (10W7). wouldn't trade it for anything as of right now (maybe a 15" IDMAX if there ever will be one).

sounds a bit different than my IDMAX though. the W7 is more warmer, i guess. the idmax seems to be a bit dryer but gotta love that transient response. (too bad only a 2" voice coil for the idmax)

I want to try a DD 9515 in an SQ install, but for that amount of money I could probably get a W7. Decisions, decisions...

because power is power and the memphis amp puts out inaudible distortion than more expensive amps.

any amp can be an "SPL" amp if it has the desired power. if say a Arc Audio 2500XCL produces 1000 watts RMS and a Memphis puts out 600 watts, which would be a better "SPL" amp? personally, i laugh when people say "SPL amp", because in reality, there is nothing in an amp that makes one an "SPL" amp or NOT and spl amp.

Ok well what amp do you guys recommend? Place has Zapco, Soundstream, JL audio, Fosgate, Planet Audio, Kenwood, Memphis, kicker Acoustic Research. He also has the Earthquake D3 shredder and the old D2 shredder. He can special order anything I want. And also I am thinking about getting a Eclipse Head unit instead of the Alpine. You guys let me know what you think.

i have one 10W7 in a sealed box to JL specs pushed by a JL 500/1 amp.
it's in my 2000 2 door gsr. oh yah my head unit is an alpine 7894 if that means
anything.
the quality of the bass is almost unreal. hits everything accurately and cleanly.
hits hard for being in a sealed enclosure too.
i rarely come across anyone that can outbump me unless they have like an SUV
with like three 12's in a ported enclosure hahahahahahah..
i rarely setup off car alarms though...i wanna know what a sealed 12W7 would
sound like in my car pushed by my amp.

oh yah...if u get the JLW7 i'd get it in the pre-enclosed sub box or whatever you call
it straight from JL. you'll save money in terms of having to build a custom box
and labor (mounting the JLW7 is a beeyitch)

Thanks for the replies. Anyone have any recommendations on a good amp?
Oh and the box and sub are straight from JL Audio and he will let me have the 13.5 W7 for the same price as the 12W7.

Better Audio 1600M1 and run it at 1.5ohm. should put out about 1300 or so (maybe more) for only about 325 or 375.
