Default who has ran this mini me setup

a6 block
p29 pistons
y8 head gasket
y8 head

this would yeild a 13.1:1 c/r. do the valves clear the pistons w/ this setup?

that might be a good set-up. If there was some contact you could always fly-cut the pistons. Just a thought

according to this: http://pub143.ezboard.com/fhon...topic it will work. its basicly the same as a y8 motor w/ p29 pistons aside from the fact thats its an a6 block which is basicly the same thing if im not mistaken

He should be able to run pump gas (93). I'd worry about a GOOD ignition system and good fuel management however

p29s are from the d16a1 (88-89 teg ls). you can run 93 octane on that setup w/ good fuel management and ignition like sirx said. this is not a setup for someone who wants to bolt the stuff in and expect it to work properly. it requires extensive tuning.

the p29s will fit fine in any d series block including sohc and dohc zc. d16y8 d16z6 d16a6 d16b7 d15b etc

the c/r on this is actually 13.1:1. i used the wrong piston to deck clearance.

supposedly (according to a mag- i forgot which one) there is a new 100 octane gas that is being sold in hardware stores or something- so that might be an option. I think that the magazine I was reading was Import Tuner

so what kind of pistons are in the d16a6??

what gives this setup such darned high compression?

what if you used a z6 head? lower compression? still higher than a normal minme?

PM6

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Tad &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">what gives this setup such darned high compression?</TD></TR></TABLE>

the P29 pistons sit 0.020" (.5mm) lower in the bore but have a 7.2cc dome vs. the PM6 3.4cc dish. the Y8 head has a smaller volume combustion chamber than the Z6 or A6... Y8=32.8cc Z6=34.6cc A6=38cc

Y8 head, Y8 HG, P29 pistons, D16 block ~ 12.61:1 CR
Z6 head, Y8 HG, P29 pistons, D16 block ~ 12.03:1 CR

here: http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/D.htm

what is a <u>normal</u> minime?

I did the math, if built PROPERLY-it's not as "budget" as many people think
P29 Pistons (.5mm OS) w/ rings~250
Machine work (quote from Bensons)~180
Y8 HG~60
Cam Gear (needed trust me!)~100
After all this, the head and block MUST be flat, if resurfacing is req'd, add that in, then you can't just slap it all together, you need clay for valve to piston clearance

Sure u can do it JY style and find some used pistons,, cut the labor on the machine work and just rehone with Sears type tool and a drill, but don't for get you're dealing with close to 13/1 CR!!!!

Can't mess around with that!!!

Build Properly

What can a ricer expect if he pulls a "half ***" job on this project?
I'm sure someone will.

Can you use a d16y7 block and d16y8 head with p29 piston or would they hit? Just curios if I need to cut the piston.
