I'm confused about my engine Did i get ripped off?=/ PLEASE HELP.
Ok yesterday i wanted to do a full tune up, so i went to auto zone got a oil filter, spark plugs/wires, rotor and cap. The previous owner, supposidly swapped the motor from the stock engine to a d16z6. The valve cover says Vtec and the block has the d16z6 on it.... BUT the rotor and cap that i bought were different then what i just took off from the engine, so i went back to autozone. And when we matched the old sh*t up to the rotor and cap from the 91 civic or whatever.... it Matched, although the oil filter i bought was still good...
So now im confused did i get ripped off when i bought the car, or maybe it was the crx rotor and cap(if possible), or who the hell knows what else it can be... But anyways, is there any other way to tell if it is definetly a d16z... thank you very much.

If it says 'D16Z6' on the block stamp, then it's a D16Z6. Does it have a VTEC solenoid?? (beside the distributor). It's likely that the previous owner used the CRX Si computer, injectors, and distributors, and hooked up VTEC with a switch or something like that.
yah vtech is not hooked up yet, when i bought it i knew that the p28 chip was not included so im not sure.... But they showed me a greenish plug on the left side below the valve cover that did not have anything in it saying thats where it would go.... by the way nice name
You need parts for a 92-95 ex coupe or 92-95 si hatchback. That is the year the motor came from.
You should convert you car to obd-1 by buying a jumper harness and running a p28 odb-1 computer.
Its the easiest way and that way your vtec will have the correct fuel maps.

MrSpiLLz, you are putting way too much thought into this. If the block say's D16Z6, then you have a sohc vtec motor. He probably used the old cap and rotor during the swap. No big deal.
I take it you don't know much about cars?!?! That's cool... gotta start someplace! You do have the right block and it also sounds like you pointed out the vtec plug (green under distributor).
It's common for people to not upgrade to the P28 computer when they do this swap in a 88~91. Vtec will not work off the stock ECU (computer) you have, but you can get a vtec controller or an RPM activated switch and you will be set.

So no vtec solenoid...ne pics would help-its probably all si components worked obd0-You got the swap but wiring isnt there soooo-try and take some pics-there several ways to hook up vtec but its if you want to make it as nice as possible or if u want to just "have" vtec-I recommend stayin away from a ghettotec....

yah when i bought the parts for the 95 ex they didnt work, so when i tryed to stock rotor and cap it worked..... So most likely what mr.s said was right, I just got done restoring the whole driver side rear quarter rust... So when i save up a little more money im going to buy the stuff ill need for the vtec.... But what is the advantages/disadvantages of having it connected?
No you can keep the save cap/rotor. But get a obd0 to obd-1 conversion harness. Dont use the vafc or shiftlite way. Its just ghetto

actually if he converts his car to obd1 he will need an obd1 distributor. an obd1 ecu can't communicate properly with an obd0 distrib, and vice versa.
