Default my b16 crx is slow! WTF?!

Okay, I dropped a b16a into my 89 crx si aout 2 mos. ago. I raced m brother in his 88 sohc d16 crx and bearly beat him by about one car if that. we were tied 1st thru 3rd gear. I know it wasnt my driving because just before i swapped my engine, i raced him with the d16, and we tied. Now, i do have the d16 sohc distributor on the b16a because when i bought my motor from hookers... i mean hookups in upland, they failed to provide one like they said they would . So i know my timing is not where it should be. I launched at 3k 1st time, then 3500. same result. I have dc header, intake, and hasport zdyne ecu he has aem intake on his d16. I NEED YOUR HELP! thanks guys.

This sounds about right for a B16a dyno.

Otherwise, welcome to the hype of the B16 . The d16a6 is a quick motor, and you won't see a tremendous advantage over that. However, you should beat him by more than one car length, but don't expect to roast him.

But if all he has is an intake, then something isn't adding up.

Maybe you can't drive. It's all about the launch for the B16's.

Maybe you have automatic cams in that B16 do you know? Cause my cousin had the same problem and that's what it was.

Yeah you could have the automatic ECU as well. As someone said, welcome to the hype of the B16. I have never rode in a b16 equipped car but a CRVTEC> that is not hype!

Hype of B16, yet you've never rode in one?

Oh yeah, how did you manage to spell break two different ways in your signature?

Putting down 137 HP on a B16 seems pretty low. I've seen B16's average from 140-160.

137 to the wheels is perfectly normal. In some issue of Honda tuning I believe they had power pages where a 00' SI put down 137 stock. So if he has an older B16 with higher mileage on it 137 seems about right. A motor that is advertised at 160 at the flywheel is not gonna put down 160 to the wheels. Most FWDs lose 15% through the drivetrain. If you do the math 15% of 160 is 24hp. 160 minus 24 gives you... wallah! 136hp. Enough has been said.

You didnt mention exhaust in your mods so that is certainly robbing you of some top-end if your still kickin it stock.

That is true though, i dont think running a B16 on the stock 2 inch exhaust piping will do much good

another thing the SI tranny is really good. The only thing better for the "D" would be the zc/si hybrid. What tranny are you running? Alot of factors have to be taken into effect when doing a swap

I've got a B16/S1 tranny combo... I have stock SiR e manifold and stock cat,resonator,piping... God is it tiny. I read in Sport Compact Car that when they did a B18 swap in a civic hatch like mine they gained 10 horse to the wheels with a good exhaust system over stock.

I concur. Still, I did manage a 15.1 with it

Make sure you get Mandrel bent!

I'm not so sure mandrel bends are totally necessary for such a small displacement engine, I honestly don't think you'd see to much of a gain over crush and crush can be quite a bit cheaper. So if you're on a budget I'd say crush for sure but if you can go mandrel then go for it, but don't expect and exhaust to make your car screaming fast cuz I think you'll hardly feel the difference even over stock, but that is my opinion, oh and get ready to loose torque, at least what little you had

i've gotten a ride in a b16 crx with i/h/e and i was NOT impressed. its not a bad motor, but for the price your paying i think you should be getting a LOT more. i'd take my ZC over a b16 anyday, then use the money left over to do junkyard turbo setup or nitrous. i'll probally get a lot of **** for posting this, and before anyone gets super butt hurt, i'm not hating on the b16, i'd just rather have a ZC(because its cheaper and not THAT much slower than a b16).
