Default Shifting

I got a "97 accord automatic...and i was driving the other night and i noticed that my car has alot more power when i drive around in D3 and then if im goin faster switch into D4..it seems to work the best but i dunno if its bad for the tranny of not let me know what u think

Actually your probably saving the tranny by doing that, instead of it constantly having to shift up and down from 3rd to 4th it is just staying in 3rd, although gas mileage would probalby be less staying in 3rd. yes the car will feel faster because you are still in a lower gear. Lower gear = more power and less efficency. As long as you don't mind the lower fuel economy then go for it and on the highway just shift it to 4th sorta like overdrive.

3rd gear has a 1:1 ratio where as 4th gear has somwhere between a .7 to .6 ratio. driving around in 3rd gear will kill your fuel ecomomy and will also shorten the LIFE of your engine (an egine can only turn so many times before something will fail and that is NOT good)

4th gear is for

a. fuel ecomomy
b. engine life
