I am 6ft 3in and 250lbs. Can I ride a bike?

Falcon, I thought you had a bike?
I thought this post was just making fun of everyone who asks if they are big enough, if not I'm an idiot.

You are perfectly fine. My buddy is 300lbs 6ft 7inches. He rides a ZX6 and has no complaints. Bike even looks somewhat ok for him. Kinda looks like a gorilla fu**ing a football. He is going to get a bigger bike.
Anyway....if he is fine...you definately will be.

HA! this thread rocks.
HA! this thread rocks.
Sorry to hijack but i didn't want to start another thread seeing as how this one pertains to what i was going to ask.
I'm interested in finding out what size/type of bike would be good for me. Yes i'm a beginner, i'll be 21 around the time i plan on buying the bike. I'm 6'5 ( prolly will grow another inch before i'm done ) and weigh 220lb ( will be around 250-260 by the time i go to buy). I don't plan on racing all crazy, just something simple ( with the least amount of plastic as i've learned ) with decent speed ( looks aren't too important ) to start learning how to ride before i progress.
Now i've read numerous threads on the bikes for beginners but none too much based for the actual specifics of height/weight of the rider.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=152897
I've read all the threads listed here ( and some of the ones listed in the threads urls ), did a search, and have somewhat of an understanding of what i'm getting myself into. I've learned that i should look into taking the MSF course and getting a bike with the least amount of plastic possible. My questions should be somewhat easy to ans as i've tried all i can to find out what i need to know. Plz help me out to figure out which bike to get according to my height/weight/riding style/exp. Thanks
1. I've seen these bikes " ninja 500, ex250, sv650, yamaha yzf , kawasaki 250r's " spoken frequently as beginner bikes. Are these all sportbikes ? Is there one that would be an exceptional start off bike for me ?
2. What type of bike would be better to learn on ? Dirt or Street ? I don't plan on going to any road courses, just want to gain as much riding exp as i can.
3. I've read through searches that sliders help protect the frame of the bike ( the plastics i guess ) and i was wondering would i need this ? and how much should i be looking to pay ?
4. Can you all forgive me for making such a long post ? I just want to learn all i can while i still have the time for it.
Thank you guys ! ! !
laterz
EDIT: Spell check ownz me.

Yeah they're all sport bikes. Though the EX250, Ninja 250, and Kawaski 250r's are kinda redundent. True, the GPZ250 isn't technically an EX250, but you probably won't find one anyway. Kawi makes 2 EX series bikes still in the US, the EX500 and EX250, they're both Ninjas.
You can rule the 250's right out IMO. Too small. Anything above that, you'll be fine. Weight generally isn't an issue if you're not racing. Height is somewhat, but a lot of it is learning proper posture. I'm 6'4", and you just learn how to position yourself. Some selective re-shaping of the seat foam is also sometimes helpful (to push your riding position back somewhat).
Above that, just sit on the bike and see how it feels. I think you'd be fine with an EX500. The SV is a pretty torque'y bike, so it requires slightly more care when you're motoring around.

If you want a street bike, buy a street bike. Yes, they rudements transfer between the two, but theyre different beasts.
You want to learn to ride? Take the MSF.

Frame sliders generally protect the frame (hence the name) and generally not the plastic. Sometimes they'll keep the plastic from cracking, but it's still going to get rashed to hell. Hence, why it's best to not buy a new bike when you're new. If you get some of the longer ones, they also help to keep the bike from fully resting on your leg if you lowside it and don't kick it away. They also have the annoying tendency to make the bike "spin" around the slider axis.

Thanx Project ! that really helped me out alot. So it seems that a ninja ex500 will be the beginner bike for me
.
Oh one more thing,
1. As i've learned, i'd want to get something older because of the pain in plastic prices when the bike drops. What yr bracket should i look for ? I don't know what yr these bikes started nor what yr to look for.
I'll most likely look in the mags or online for prices, just need to know the years.
2. About the selective positioning of the seat, is this something i will be able to adjust that is already equipped with the bike or will i need to get an aftermarker seat ?
3. Again sorry for the long post, This is very informative
Thanks again for your help Project..lol you have shown me " mercy "
