Viper 550esp.... lights dont blink anymore
Hello- I have a Viper 550 esp and when I arm/disarm the alarm, the lights no longer blink. I checked the 15amp fuse for the lights and it is good... I also put a multimeter in the terminals of the fuse holder, and it read somewhere around 12v when I arm/disarm the alarm. The lights also work normally via the stock lightswitch.
What do you suggest I do?
What do you suggest I do?
Hmmm...lets see now
a. you checked the alarm and it flashed 12v upon arm /disarm based on a
multimeter measurement...okay that rules out a busted/frozen relay
b. you pulled the fuse and found out that the car shows 12v when lights
are on through the alarms fuse holder right?....if so you dont have a broken
connection in the wiring.
c. you pulled the fuse and it "looked" good....a fuse is duty rated for
X hours...it can burn a slow trace instead of a catastrophic one...I think you
found the weakest link.
If senario a and b are correct...just replace the fuse and it will work good as new.

Ima replace the fuse with a wire, is that a wise idea?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Don't do it !!!....if the fuse is blowing after you replace it
and test the system...you have a dead short in the system. It needs
to be fixed before other problems arise.

Turn on your parking lights and test the white parking light wire coming out of the brain, if it shows that you have 12 volts on the white wire when the parking lights are on then your connection is fine. You can also put a 3-5 amp fuse on a piece of wire and jump it over to the red wire on the brain (12v constant) and see if the parking lights flash when u touch the wires together ... just make sure you use a fuse to protect the circuits on the brain and in the car. If neither work take the brain back to a circuit city, DEI products are guarenteed for life and they can warranty it for you there as will any autoorized DEI dealer.
Awesome suggestion! Im going home again in two weeks, I will try this.
lets see... with my parking lights on, and i test the white wire... can i just remove the fuse and look for voltage there?
and also.... does dei make the viper products?

I have no clue but I have bought several Viper Alarms in the past and they all have done this to me. They were installed by pro's. I am no longer going to buy a viper for this reason. I think that clifford is made by DEI electronics as well so it looks like I will take that chance again!!!! But if you find out let us know..

You can look for voltage there ... that is just an easy way to make sure that the connection between the parking light wire on the brain and the wire in the car are good. yes Viper is a DEI product. Make sure that the wire that u connected to is a red wire with a black stripe on the back of the dimmer switch, but make sure that that wire does not drop to ground when you dim the dash lights down, if it does find another source. If you really get stuck let me know I have been installing professionally for 6 years now and I will try to talk you through it over the phone ... i know how frustrating it can be. good luck.

What alarm would you recommend, and why do you think my alarm is inept?
