Whats your idle when starting the car in the morning?
What is your stock idle on a G3 GSR? When i start my car, it is around under 2k. Is this right? also, my car makes a slight high pitch sound while i warm up the car, is this normal?
Just wondering. please share any info, it is much appreciated

mine's usually around 1500-1600..which is a loud idle with my exhaust..sounds pretty nice..heh heh
the slight high pitched sound is probably the belts slipping because they might be a little wet from morning dew?

My car, which is garaged, idles at roughly 2400rpm when I first start it. Then within seconds goes down to 2k and I dont drive it until it is warmed up at 600rpm.
Your idle is perfectly normal MintyDip, although I do not have the high pitch sound you are refering to, but i'm sure its nothing to worry about.

you know talking about this.. i dont know if this happens to you guys.. but when i turn on my car and then put it in drive my motor moves like big time and you can feel the hole car like shake.. lol this is only when the motor is cold though. dosent happen when the car is warmed up. my idle when first on is about 2500 about. sometimes even close to 3 crazy haha
KANJI and andrekun: damn thats high! that must be hella loud... mine idles around 1400-1600.....but nowhere near 2500...... thats odd....

haha ya.. i dont know why it does that. it actually sounds pretty good though.. its at about the right spot on my rpm where my exhaust sounds nice. but its still odd that it idles so high and that my motor tugs..
i think the idle depends on how hot the temp(weather) was that the cold motor was resting in.... for example during the winter time my start up idle would be over 2k RPMs, but now that it's summer my start up idle is usually around 1.5k RPM
I agree with Keys,
It all depends on your temp.....
If its cold..man everything about your engine is frozen and that first turn of the key on the ignition is the worse part that can ever happen to your car....If its hotter out then obviously fluids will run more smoothly hence less time to warm up....
Remember guys, these engines are built very well, dont warm them up for 10 mins or so if your in cold weather. Warm them for a couple of minutes and then drive the car in very low RPM to get everything flowing....

Acutally, my idle isnt that strange. It is cold in the morning, so this explains the initial high rpm, but this 2200rpm (maybe 2500 was a tad high), only lasts for a split second after starting it up. After that it slowly drops down towards my warm idle of about 550rpm.
I dont drive my car unless its warmed up fully first, then I still baby it a little longer....what can I say, I just like to pamper my car. This is probably the main reason why the engine runs like new.

Mine idles at 1900-2000 when cold or 1400-1700 when warm(depending) the high pitch noise could also be your AEM CAI whistling
when i start mine it goes to about 3k and goes a little higher... then drops in a split second down to about 1k and then back up to 3k for a second, drops down again after a few seconds... it does this a few times then it slowly gets down...
its not a stock motor though
its not a stock motor though
where do u guys live??? and do u park outside?? cuz i live in sunny cali and its never that cold for my car to idle above 2k......its never idled above 1600.....that was one of the coldest damn days during winter and my car sat outside for 4 hrs.....still never past 1600.....
I live in CA, and park my car outside. In the winter I have seen it hit 2k for a short time. Less that 30 seconds. This happened on my LS and my GSR.
im not that familar with teh GSR warm up idle so i cant speak from experence but on my LS the idle was high and would never really get down where it should be. And it was jumpy. If this is happenening to you guys i have two very simple suggestions that will set your mind at ease. First , change fuel filter. If you havnt dont it in a year go ahead and do it, it wont hurt. Not the easiest thign in the world but not bad and definatly good for the engine, LS or GSR. 2nd, and even easier. Change the PCV valve. Its a very simple, 5 minute job that you will notice right away. Total the two ideas just mentioned shouldnt cost you more then 30. At least thats what i spent at A & H motorsports. Those guys are really helpful. Hope this post helps you guys.
There's nothing wrong with driving your car right after you start
her up. Just don't go shifting above 3K rpms before the engine is warmed
up first though. Siting your car until it's warmed up is just a pure waste of
gas! I mean, the most harm done is during the first 5 secs after you start
the car. It only takes about 10 secs before the internal moving parts are
oiled up.

DOHC_VTEC786: I dont think that sound is my CAI. Ill take more note of it tomorrow morn when i start the car up. It is a strange sound, but it goes away after the car is warmed up. Also, it only happens at certain RPMs.
