just changed rear brakes and rotors...ebrake wont lock anymore...
yesterday i changed my rear brakes and rotors but the ebrake wont lock like before and it was a lot looser. by looser i mean it would a lot go higher than before. not even if i lift it as much as i can it still wont lock the wheels. i also changed the caliper if that's anymore help for more info. if you have any suggestions please do so.........thanx in advanced
First you need to block front tires then jack up rear of car. There should be a parking brake adjustment nut right behind your parkingbrake console. You might have to pull off the plastic covers too see it. Pull parking brake one notch up, then adjust the adjusting nut so your rear wheels drag not so tight that it does'nt spin. Release the parking brake to make sure rear wheels spin freely. Just adjust nut until it locks about 8 to 11 notches up. If you feel you can't do this yourself it should be a cheap fix by any mechanic.
i already did that. didn't work....
thanx btw

umm....i think i wasn't that clear by locking i mean that if i drive and go to 30 mph for instance if i pick up my ebrake all the way up they wont luck anymore
Did you make sure there was no grease on the surface of the pad or rotor?
Are your rotors coated with some kind or a finish? When I install powerstop rotor they had coat of something on it to make it look nice and silver. Once it wears away it stopped much better. Maybe it's the coating?

Does it hold at all? Do me a favor....go in reverse and slam on the (regular) brakes a couple times. See if that helps.
Be sure that the e-brake line is attached to the caliper. Take off the wheel and pull the e-brake handle up and check the position of the lever on the caliper to make sure it's working properly.

yea the ebrake works fine. but it wont lock.
it does seem that a coat of silver is coming off the rotors now. their turning bronze/bluish similar to header. we'll see what happens thanx guys!

I thought you have to give the parking brake auto-adjusting mechanism a chance to catch up to the new thickness of the pads & rotors. The handbrake mechanism inside the caliper rachets in each time you use the brakes. So it'll slowly get better.
You can press the brakes or use the handbrake (I don't remember which - check Helm manual) about 40 or 50 times to advance the mechanism to where it should be. Drum brakes adjust themselves when you're backing up, but disks don't need the car to be moving at all.
When I turn the pistons in to make room for the new pads, I only turn enough to assemble it. Don't just turn them ALL the way in. Then the adjusters don't have to move so far...
If you just tighten the cable to fix it for now, it's going to get too tight when the adjusters finally catch up. Then your brakes will start dragging & you'll ruin your new rotors.
