Default help meeeee!!!!! i think my tranny's f'd up

My car is a bone stock 1998 type r, with 75,000 miles.

Last night I was driving down a backstreet in a spirited manner. A soccer mom was turning into her neighborhood in front of me so i slowed down to about 15-20 mph, and i decided to put it back in first gear and took off.

I redlined first, and tried to put the car into second gear. But it wouldn't go in. I don't believe there was any grind or anything. It just wouldn't go in at all. But eventually I kind of slammed it in.

I went for third gear at a pretty high rpm and it wouldn't go in at all, it just grinded. Now it wouldn't go into any gear at all. Now on the side of the road stopped, i'm trying to put it into any gear, but it just won't go in.

Finally though I was able to push it in to first gear, but with a lot a lot of force... a lot. I was able to get the car into reverse as well, with more ease than when i got it into first, but still with a lot of force.

I drove home in first gear.

I have no idea what to think of this problem. My third gear synchro has been not so great at really high rpm's for a few months. My clutch feels a little different, but not much. So something is really wrong with my tranny right? Help me please, thanks in advance.

Sounds like a clutch problem of some sort more than a tranny problem.

I agree that it is clutch related ..... I had the same symptoms when the spring on my pressureplate broke.

Well.... a clutch is much better than a new tranny. I am sure you are not on your stock clutch (or maybe you are) if not what clutch do you have?

I would agree with that. The same thing happend to me and one of the clutch springs was ate up. You are lucky it is just the clutch and not the whole tranny.

it is a stock type r clutch, not the original obviously. Well that's great that it's not anything with the tranny, and that you all think it's the clutch.

I'm probably gonna go with the exedy organic, but is the problem with the push rod anything to be worried about?

Thanks again for the help

Isn't the Organic the ones that people have had the overheating problems with?

One of the MD guys had one (I think) and it just died at the strip.

edit - good job on yamming it into 1st at 20mph...

Absolutely something to be worried about. You would be foolish to buy this setup. You are much better off with an OEM replacement.

I had the same problem with my '92. One of the clutch springs was about to fall out, and two others were very loose.

Grab a 6-pack and two friends and do a clutch job

Well...if you can somehow put it into 3rd and let go the clutch. If the car doesn't stall immediatly, it's the clutch slipping.

But like all said, time to jack up the car and drop that tranny. TODA
