Default Chipped Valve(s)?? 92 h23

Ok, I am taking apart my aquired engine to inspect it. I've got a question about several of the valves. They look chipped, and they feel chipped, but is it really chipped, or is just the carbon build up? Also, about the carbon build up, is there any way for me to clean this area? Any recommendations?

If this image doesn't load, or is too slow. Go to http://www.angelfire.com/rant/paul9luapcarpage/ and there is a full size image at the bottom of the page.

well, it looks like it might just be carbon that has flaked off. Clean the valves and then take a look for damage. If they are damaged i have a h23 head with valves that is in great condition i can sell you
